The Favorite: Maddie Scherr, Ryle
How she wins: The best player on what should be among the best teams in the state next season. She’s going to have the big scoring numbers, national high rankings and a whole bunch of Power 5 offers to choose from for college.
How she loses: Because her team is talented, she won’t have the gaudy numbers that other players could put up.
Second Favorite: Whitney Hay, Elizabethtown
How she wins: She should have another year with very impressive statistics. She will be impressive on paper and voters love huge individual stats when choosing award winners. On top of that, E-town will be really good again next year.
How she loses: Hay doesn’t have the gaudy offer stack or national rankings that a couple other players in the class have right now. She’s going to have a great career regardless of how the voting goes.
So you’re telling me there’s a chance: Ta’Ziah Jenks, Mercy
How she wins: Mercy is going to be really good again next year and they play the type of schedule where potential voters all over the state could see her play.
How she loses: Jenks has a really good teammate in the same class with Hope Sivori. Those two could split votes.
Others In the Mix:
- Ally Collett, South Laurel
- Kennedy Igo, George Rogers Clark
- Erin Toller, Sacred Heart
- Malea Williams, Scott County
- Charlee Settle, Calloway County
