Prep Girls Hoops, 695 Hoops and other media outlets spent a weekend at the Elevate Your Game Tournament, presented by Elevate Elite and Nova 94 Feet. The tournament had multiple locations as it hosted over 50 teams. It was a good warmup for teams heading into the spring evaluation period and a chance to get a first look at some teams to start the season. Many teams use these early season events for preparation more so than winning games so we weren’t really concerned with wins and losses as we were the talent level showcased.
Standout Players:
Aurea Gingras – Elevate Elite – 2020
Aurea GingrasAurea has good size as a 5’8″ combo guard. She is an early commit pledging to George Washington University a year ago. She was one of the smartest players in the building as she made the best play time after time. She has a good handle and great shot. She played equally as well as the lead guard and off the ball.
Nekhu Mitchell – Power Move – 2022
Nekhu MitchellNekhu plays the game fearlessly and she will mix it up with virtually anyone and win most one on one battles for rebounds and loose balls. She has a college ready frame and nice height for a wing at the next level. She is relentless getting to the basket from 13 feet in and has a soft touch if defenders back off her shot.
Janae Dublin – Elevate Elite – 2020
Janae DublinJanae had a great high school season that ended with a bad ankle sprain. She is getting back close to 100% and didn’t look like she missed a beat. She has the ability to stretch the floor with her shooting and used her height to finish well inside. She is an inside out player that can move flawlessly from forward to wing. Janae didn’t shy away from contact as she was able to get to the line repeatedly.
Nhaikia Smith – Maryland Shooting Stars – 2020
Nhaikia SmithNhaikia is very quick and plays at a pace faster than most of the players on the court. She was impressive in transition and getting to the basket in half court sets. She was able to create a lot of havoc on the defensive end with her high energy approach attacking the passing lanes.
Gabby Johnson – Power Move – 2022
Gabby JohnsonGabby was very proficient running her Power Move team and she was a tremendous asset defensively. She used her quickness to get by defenders in route to the basket and she saw the floor really well and made accurate passes even while moving full speed.
