Home to Cedar Point and America’s Rockin’ Roller Coast, Eric County is also home to some outstanding high school girls basketball. Over the years, teams like Margaretta and Sandusky Perkins have given area basketball fans more thrills than the Valravn! Although there were many outstanding seniors who will be tough for the county’s 8 programs to replace, there are certainly some very good returners to build around.
Let’s take a look at a number of talented underclassmen from Erie County.

Edison had a successful 2018-2019 season – one of the largest reasons for their success was the continued development of Aliyah Caporini. Aliyah is a long point guard who has active hands, creating a number of turnovers and deflections on the defensive side of the basketball. She is comfortable driving with either hand, although her herky-jerky right-to-left crossover is a nice go-to move. Caporini has tremendous court vision and constantly looks ahead to make passes in transition for quality shots.
Marissa Esposito – Sandusky – 5’6 Guard – Class of 2020
Esposito is a silky-smooth point guard who isn’t the quickest, but has great handles that help her create separation. She has a very effective floater/runner and also isn’t afraid to shoot the pull-up jumper from anywhere on the court. Marissa will use the step-back when needed. Her 3-point form is pure and she has good range. She is a great help-side defender who has taken a number of charges during her career at Sandusky.
Taylor Malson – Margaretta – 5’6 Guard – Class of 2020
Taylor Malson does a little bit of everything for the Margaretta Polar Bears. Whether it is scoring, rebounding, assists or steals – Malson has been a stat-stuffer for the area’s top team. She is a strong and athletic guard who can shoot the 3 or finish through contact at the rim. She gives opponents a lot of trouble with her ability to create turnovers and also does a tremendous job of keeping possessions alive on the offensive glass.
DaShanti Miller – Sandusky – 5’10 Forward – Class of 2021
Miller is without question the area’s most physically-imposing presence on the basketball court. She snatches rebounds with ease, while making anyone who decides to reach-in and try to steal the ball reconsider that decision quickly, as she possess shoulders and arms of a big-time college player. Her offensive game is far from polished, but she finishes nearly everything around the rim and does a very good job of carving out space to get good post-touch opportunities.

Moore was the area’s top player on the area’s top team. She is a match-up nightmare who uses her strength and athleticism to take smaller defenders into the post or drive by less-agile players. An All-Ohioan, Moore is a great rebounder who does her best work around the rim. She can catch-and-shoot the 3 or go to a solid step-back jumper. Jayden has scored a number of points in her career from the FT line, after putting relentless pressure on defenses as an attacker.
Elliana Schaefer – Margaretta – 5’5 Guard – Class of 2021
Another well-rounded weapon at Margaretta, Schaefer is a good driver of the basketball. At times – she will leave her feet and get put into block-charge situations, but she is a good decision maker who creates many clean shot attempts for her teammates. She should continue to develop as a jump-shooter and is expected to have a larger role offensively for the Polar Bears next winter.
