3 players to watch: solid team with a variety of different weapons to choose from.Aarionna Redman is a guard who is on a very talented and deep high school team, but gets to display her overall talent in the summer with Team Ohio. Skilled, athletic and can push the ball in transition. Smart player and a good basketball IQ, Redman cam make things happen when she in on the floor. Another 2020 along with Redman to watch will be Maddie Downing, a true post player who can play back to the basket as well as anyone. A strong, physical player, Downing gets herself in position to get rebounds and will get physical if needed. Not afraid of contact, and her physical play gets her to the line a lot, where she is very solid from the stripe. Good outlet passer in transition. Nice right hand jump hook to the middle. Used a variety of moves on the low block just needs repetitions to improve those moves. (Hook, Up and Under, Drop Step moves).Another player to watch will be Sylvie Sonneman, yet another 2020 who continues to improve her game. Not afraid to launch a shot from the perimeter, she will connect on a lot of them. Smart, heary player with a good IQ on the court. Finishes well at the rim and pushes in transition. Solid defender who will cause problems for her opposing guard. Good passer.
2 sleepers this summer: not sure if you can say a kid who makes first-team all-Ohio is a “sleeper”, but when you are one of the youngest players on the roster, 2022 Meghan Downing will be competing against some of the top older kids in the nation this summer. At 6-foot-2 Meghan was among the top 2022’s on the PGH rankings, and with good reason. Strong inside, with good footwork. Will finish well with either hand, and she can step outside and shoot the three, or a midrange shot. Another sleeper to watch is a kid vaulting up a lot of radars, 2021 Jordan Rogers. The Franklin junior will take over at Franklin with the graduation of Layne Ferrell, and she is very talented in a lot of aspects of her game. Strong heady player with tremendous ball skills. Excellent handles, can shoot with range and will get to the rim. Always around the ball, and causes issues on defense with her tenacity. This kid can be special. Kenna Gray is a kid who was not satisfied with her game last year, so she is doing something about it. Definition of a “gym rat” she is always in the gym working on her game. Has good handles but could quicken and sharpen them up. Good quick pullup jumper, and has good range. Once she masters the drive to the basket consistently, she will be difficult to stop. Also working on being more consistent with her mental game.
