Each day I will post a notebook (as per usual) of the day’s action with 3-4 quick hitting things that impressed me. Here is my Saturday notebook.
Lady Martin Bros 2022 is a Team to Watch
My first time seeing Lady Martin Bros 2022 was special. They have so much talent and I can see every single player being a scholarship level prospect if they choose to play basketball at the next level. They have dynamic guards between Aree Beckmann, Amanda Treptow, and Allie Meadows. All are different in their own special ways as each play a differing role. Beckmann is the scorer of the group as she can get to the rim and finish but also step out and hit a jumper at a great rate. Treptow is on the smaller side, but she plays really tough and is a very good defender. She can set up her teammates really well for easy shots, a true point guard. Meadows is a jack-of-all-trades, there isn’t any one thing she is great at, but is just solid at doing everything. She’s kind of a hybrid between Beckmann and Treptow. Then you have players like Taylor Veach and Delaynie Luneckas who are both kids who will end up playing either the wing (in Veach’s case) or a stretch four (in Luneckas’ case) at the next level. They are both so mobile and skilled with the ball in their hands. Veach is more advanced skill wise than Lueckas currently, but Luneckas is so long and lanky once she figures it out, she’s going to be a top 2022 in the state. There are so many more players I haven’t even named, but they are all very good in their own way. When the updated 2022 rankings come out, don’t be surprised to see pretty much every player on this roster on it somewhere.
Gus Boyer of MN Rise Impressed
I have two types of guards that I like a ton. I like those smaller, pass first guards who are quick as lightning, but I also like those longer guards who create mismatches on both ends of the floor and can score the ball. Boyer is pretty much a hybrid of both of those. She’s quick and long allowing her to stay in front of those smaller guards. But she can also play big on the bigger guards and even guard the wing at times. She’s 5’10, so it’s not like she’s small at all. Boyer can shoot it, but she didn’t shoot it a ton today. I know she can score it and she has great decision making with the ball in her hands. Her ability to react on defense is impressive and she directs traffic on that end of the floor. She’s a guard who, while not decided on a college, will make a school very happy to have her for four years.
The Presley Case / Grace Boffeli duo Continues to Work
Case and Boffeli are teammates at North Scott and they won the state championship this past year. They play so well together and feed off of each other. Case is a small guard who is very effective passing the ball. She is a great entry passer and has the ability to change the game with passing alone. Case has a knack for finding the open man no matter where she is. She can add a bit of scoring and finishes really well at the rim. Boffeli is a very strong interior player who has the ability to stretch it out. She can hit that mid-range jumper with a bit of consistency. What she is best at is the pick-and-roll with Case. They have that action down pat and just know where each other is going to be on the floor. These two players are going to be fun all summer long.
