PGH All-Defensive First Team
(DPOY)–Tayler Factor of Mitchell 5’6 (2019) . The 5’8 guard may be small in stature but her hands are long. Guards could not get pass her. Even if they may have beat her with the first step, she pulls out those Kawhi Leonard hand. Pluck, pluck and a steal goes the other direction. She locks up on defense, which gives her teammate other opportunities to capitalize on.
Taliyah Hayes of Sioux Falls Roosevelt 5’7 (2022). Hayes is probably the only player in the state that can guard all five positions. She’s very athletic and has a natural ability to get in the passing lane. She’s another player that is not in the top percentile of height. But Hayes has heart.
Sydnaya Dunn of Sioux Falls Lincoln 6’1 (2019) Dunn was the anchor for Lincoln. It was a no fly zone. She not only blocked shots, she deflected them as well.
Lauren Wells of Brandon Valley 5’9 (2019) Wells is a lock down defender. She was always called upon to take the assignment of the best guard opposite of her. Very physical player who knows how to use angles that would force players into sticky situations.
Kali Nelson of West Central 5’10 (2019) Speedy wing who has a natch for the passing lane. Long, fast and athletic which helped her guard multiple positions.
Second Team
Kyah Watson of Rapid City Stevens 6’0 (2020). Physically dominant on defense. Watson combines size a speed. At first glance you don’t thinks she as fast as she is, then she’s blocking a shot and starting her own fast break.
Trinity Law of Brandon Valley 5’9 (2019) At almost three steals per game, Law not only pluck of passes but locks down on defense. During the game you would find her sticking her nose into any loose ball situation.
Haleigh Timmer of St. Thomas More 5’9 (2021) Physical guard who wasn’t afraid to take on the oppositions best player. Timmer loves to take on the contact and using her frame to dictate where the offensive player will go
Lexi Unruh of Sioux Falls Christian 5’11 (2021) Long, really long wing that caused a lot of congestion. At times she was at the top of the zone or press and the offense couldn’t get into anything. Unruh avg 3.5 steals a game
Mya Wilson of Sioux Falls Lincoln 5’5 (2020) Simply a defensive maniac! Pressures the ball better then anyone in the state. Wilson feeds off hustle plays and defensive stops for her team.
