I recently had the opportunity to watch them compete against a Kansas Bluejays squad, eventually losing 64-47, at the MAYB Wichita Hall of Fame Exposure tournament held at Wichita Sports Forum. Here are a few things to know about them.
Allie Baker (#10) – 5’1” PG – Allie tallied 14 points, 7 assists, and a steal. She showed jump shooting ability beyond the arc and sets her feet well in anticipation of a shot attempt off a pass. She has quick hands and passes ahead well leading the break. Allie also has a good change of pace dribble and vision on the drive. She saw a great amount of varsity floor time this past season.
Maddyn Stewart (#13) – 5’7″ SG. Maddyn scored 9 points. While she showed a nice shot off the catch what caught my eye is how well she boxes out.
Avery Gutierrez (#22) – 5’5″ SG. Avery scored 4 points. She showed a solid shot off the catch and drove the baseline well to create an interior shot. Avery makes effective use of her crossover dribble to create space to pass in the half court. With improved spacing of her feet to generate power, her perimeter range will increase.
Like every one of their teammates these three run well. They also competed well for rebounds, each collecting a couple. An interesting note, each of the Spartan trio knocked down one of the team’s three point shots. Keep an eye out for the girls when the fall high school season rolls around.
