One of those events was the Ballers Bash in the Akron-Canton area.
The Buckeye State Blast won both the JR/SR and the 10th grade divisions by large margins.
Let’s look at some of the top players from The Ballers Bash in the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021.
Karlee Altimore from the Varsity Athletic Club is a dynamic scorer of the basketball. (Photo Credit: Times Reporter)Karlee Altimore – 5’6 Guard – Sandy Valley – Class of 2020; Varsity Athletic Club
Altimore – already a 2-time All-Ohio selection and 1000 point scorer entering her senior year – is a tremendous scorer of the basketball. She can catch and shoot or create off of the bounce. She also does a great job of using screens effectively. Karlee will be a very good combo-guard at the college level. She has the athletic tools to continue to develop as a defender.
Caitlyn Condoleon (pictured above) – 5’7 Guard – Warren JFK – Class of 2020; Buckeye State Blast
Caitlyn doesn’t always get it done in the most aesthetically pleasing fashion, but more often than not she gets it done. There are few players who have a better arsenal of finishing moves (floaters, euros, runners) than Condoleon. She also has a very quick release, which allows her to get her jumper off from anywhere on the court. Her strength adds tremendous range to her jumper. A 2-time All-Ohio selection by the OPSWA, Caitlyn has over 1200 points entering her senior season – she is a player to watch.
Jessie Grover – 5’8 Wing – Lucas – Class of 2020; NEO Swish
Grover was named the OPSWA All-Ohio 2nd-Team this season and is another girl who already has 1000 points entering her senior season. She had a few standout performances over the weekend, displaying her outstanding strength and explosiveness. Although she isn’t the most skilled player, she does have the physical tools to contribute at the D3 level in college. She is tough to stop when she gets her hands on the ball around the rim and also does a great job of hitting the offensive boards and getting to the FT line.
Grace Mills from the Buckeye State Blast has the athleticism to make her a immediate contributor at the scholarship level. (Photo Credit: Record-Courier)Grace Mills – 5’8 Guard – Garrettsville Garfield – Class of 2021; Buckeye State Blast
Mills was a rare all-state performer during her freshman and sophomore seasons at Garfield. An elite-athlete who creates havoc on the defensive end, she does her best work driving hard to the bucket or knocking down mid-range jumpers. She is tough to stop in transition as she does a great job of getting off of her feet to put the ball in the hoop. Grace will be a strong contributor at the scholarship level.
Alyssa Peganoff – 5’10 Wing – Avon – Class of 2021; MAC Basketball
At 5’10, Alyssa provides versatility on the offensive end, while also being able to defend multiple positions. She boasts good athleticism, which makes her a difficult match-up. She is at her best when she is attacking the rim and finishing in a variety of ways, but also will step out and knock down the 3-pointer on a consistent basis if she is left open.
Maddie Puletti – 5’9 Guard – Gilmour Academy – Class of 2020; MAC Basketball
A 1st-team selection to the North Coast League and 3rd-team Northeast Lakes All-District choice, Maddie showed off her quick release throughout the weekend. She has solid range on her jumper and does a tremendous job of seeing the floor and creating for teammates. She is a good on-ball defender who can cause problems for opposing guards.
Annie Seboe – 5’11 Wing – Loudonville – Class of 2020; Buckeye State Blast
Seboe started the championship game 5-of-5 from 3-point range, as her team rolled to a victory over Air-Attack McVaney in the JR/SR division. Annie shows great form and footwork on her jumper – especially when her feet are set and she can catch and shoot. She is a good rebounder and above average post defender. She needs to improve her lateral movement so that she becomes a better pick-and-roll defender.
Taylor Thomas – 5’8 Wing – Chippewa – Class of 2021; Buckeye State Blast
Taylor is a knock-down 3-point shooter with good length and a quick release. She showed flashes of finishing at the rim with creativity and also had a few nice post-moves with her left hand. If she continues to work on becoming an all-around player offensively, she will become a match-up nightmare during her last two years for state-power Chippewa and legendary coach Denny Schrock. Thomas needs to rebound the ball a little bit more at her size – she has the frame to add muscle.
