In recent years, Union County has not had the best girls basketball teams in the Central District or the state of Ohio. Although the teams have not typically made the deepest of runs in the tournament, there are some very good players at the county’s 4 schools.
Let’s take a look at a number of talented underclassmen from Union County.

Although she was the focal point of opposing defense, Blevins had an outstanding sophomore season for North Union. With averages of over 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks per contest, Journey was constantly stuffing the stat sheet. She is a huge threat on the offensive glass and does a good job of creating early transition opportunities for her team as a rim protector.
Jamie Cline – Dublin Jerome – 5’9 Guard – Class of 2020
Cline is a big and strong combo-guard. Although she isn’t necessarily the quickest player on the court, she knows how to create open shots, whether it be with the basketball in her hands or by using screens off of the ball. Jamie is a good 3-point shooter and also does a nice job of getting her teammates open looks off of penetration and in transition.
Caitlin Cotner– Marysville – 5’8 Guard – Class of 2020
A true sharp-shooter, Cotner stretches defenses with her quick release and good range. Also a soccer player, Cotner shows off her speed, agility and athleticism in the open court, as she is a tough guard to stop in transition. She is a good on-ball defender who creates turnovers at a solid rate.
Kori Marvin – North Union – 5’8 Guard – Class of 2020
Marvin is a tremendous multi-sport athlete. Unfortunately, she will be on the shelf for a little while as she works back from a knee injury suffered during the first half of her junior year. The quick guard is one of North Union’s primary ball-handlers and leading scorers. Her health will be key if NU wants to make a run next winter.
Michaela Writesel – Fairbanks – 5’7 Forward – Class of 2020
Fairbanks struggled this winter, but Writesel was a bright spot. The best player on her team, Micahela averaged nearly 8 points and 4 rebounds a night. She is an under-sized slasher who is much more comfortable attacking and finishing at the rim than she is shooting the 3-ball. As a matter of fact, Writesel only made 2 3-pointers all season.
