While I was able to watch many games, I was not able to watch all teams and all players at the event. Here are some players that stood out to me in the class of 2021:
Abby Guthrie (IL Rockets 16 Red/Dixon) – The 5’9” SG is an extremely confident shooter from deep. Her smooth and consistent lefty shot allows her to shoot at a high percentage well beyond the 3pt line.
Ellie Wisner (IL Rockets 16 Red/Nequa Valley) – Like Guthrie, Wisner also possesses the confidence and talent to hit from deep at a high percentage. The 5’9” SG can also handle the ball well on a consistent basis.
Erin Houpt (Midwest Elite 16 EYBL/Danville) – Houpt continues to play at a very high level against tough competition. The 5’6” athlete is a true PG with a pass-first mentality. The offense runs most efficiently when Houpt is at the lead to get everyone involved.
Jayiona Cobbs (Lady Meanstreets 15 Ivory/Evanston HS) – The 5’8” PG is a terrific ball handler and smooth while driving through the lane. Cobbs also has a natural and consistent shot beyond the arc.
Lauren McDonald (IL Lady Lightning 17 Platinum Seberger/St. Ignatius) – McDonald is a natural 2 or 3 Guard at 5’9”, but can handle the ball efficiently when needed. She thrives most when driving in the lane or running in transition, but is also able to shoot the three.
Juliana Cutrara (IL Lady Lightning 17 Platinum Seberger/Marian Catholic) – A 5’5” PG with a pass-first mentality, players have to love being on the floor with Cutrara. She’s quick with the ball and handles it well to beat defenders one on one. Very good at creating open looks for her teammates.
Lauren Huber (IL Rockets 16 Red/Glenbard East) – The 5’8” PG is a solid floor-general and a good compliment to Guthrie and Wisner. Huber uses her strength and quickness to get in the lane and dish to her open teammates.
