While that may have occurred at times, you wouldn’t be able to tell by watching Fremd’s Brianna Wooldridge out on the court. Wooldridge helped lead her team to a remarkable 29-5 overall record and a perfect 10-0 in conference play. The team, that returns nearly every player, lost in the Sectional Championship this past season, and is sure to make noise once again.
Brianna, a 6’2’’ Forward, is a match-up nightmare in the post. Her height and strength alone are tough to compete against, but when you add her post moves and touch at the rim, she becomes nearly unstoppable.
In her own words, Brianna says that her “left hand, driving, and ball handling as a post are some things that I am very comfortable doing right now. My coach, Heather, makes me do a lot of the stuff I don’t necessarily want to do so that I get more comfortable with them throughout high school.”
So far, that hard work has paid off. For her size and position, Brianna can take care of the ball when needed and use her skills to drive past slower opponents. As for things she is looking to improve on this season, Brianna says “my right hand and shooting. My mid-range and three-point shooting, all of it.”
Even as an elite prospect as a Freshman, Brianna is smart and has the people around her to continuously take her game to new levels. She can already knock down Free Throws consistently, so once she develops that touch from outside, look out.
What’s going on in recruiting?
“I visited Wisconsin and Illinois, but Illinois was the first time I actually got to try on a uniform and go through that process, and it was really awesome. I also have an offer from Saint Louis, to go along with the offer from Illinois.”
Receiving Big Ten and Atlantic Ten offers is a tremendous accomplishment for any player, let alone a Freshman. Playing AAU with Illinois Hustle, Brianna will play in highly rated tournaments in front of some of the best coaches in the country. As humble and hard-working as she is, I look for that offer list to grow greatly throughout the next couple of years.
