The 5’9” incoming Freshman Guard at Hersey High School displays extreme maturity and it’s very clear that the game comes naturally to her.
When asked about her Wolverinas 15U season, Katy said “Its going great! We have been in 11 tournaments so far in the season and have won 7 of them. As a team we are currently 39-4.”
The Wolverinas have many future college athletes in the 2022, 2023, and 2024 classes and it really shows every time they take the court, hence the impressive record.
Katy, herself, can play the 1-3 spots with her rock-solid ball handling skills and combination of size and quickness that allow her good looks in the lane. For what she sees as her strengths, Katy says “I would say my shooting, awareness to see everyone on the court, and ability to drive and make layups with contact.”
Katy uses her strength well, as she mentioned, to finish at the rim, but can also shoot the three at a high clip. To this point in the season, she is averaging somewhere around 20 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists per game.
As a young athlete determine to play at the next level, there is no such thing as settling, and Katy understands that as well as anyone. When I asked what she is specifically working on this season, she said “I’m trying to improve on my defense and trying to not allow players to drive by me or shoot over me.”
What is going on in recruiting?
“I don’t have any offers yet, but I have been in contact with an Assistant Coach from Toledo.”
Anytime an incoming Freshman is receiving interest from a college coach, it shows that there is potential there. With Katy being a 5’9” Guard that can handle the ball, shoot, pass, and finish well in contact, she is absolutely someone coaches are making note of at this time. If the offers aren’t coming in this year at the 15U level, I fully expect Katy to start seeing them at this time next year.
