Really enjoyed how many out of state teams there were because I am always looking out for new college prospects to keep on my radar. There was a solid overall mix of girls that performed well, some local, some out of state.
Gianna Bryant 5’2 2024 G (Mamba Sports Academy 15U)
Gianna Bryant, yes Kobe Bryant’s daughter, is quite the young prospect. The entire MSA team is 7th graders and one 5th grader playing up in the 15u division. Gianna is more than capable of holding her own and is a pretty darn good scorer. Some of the moves she pulls out of her bag are really impressive especially when considering her age. Bryant could be making a name for herself in the basketball world here in the near future.
Gabrielle Schwartz 6’1 2021 F (AZ Swish 17u)
I love how hard Schwartz plays and it will always get her noticed by scouts and college coaches. I am a big fan of players who catch and rip to the basket and she does it as well as anybody in AZ. She has really good size and is very agile and mobile. Schwartz can also hold it down on the defensive end and collects a lot of boards for herself.
Jess Finney 5’11 2021 G (AZ Select 16u GUAA)
Jess Finney amazes me every time I see her play. She can just flat out score the ball! She is a knockdown shooter and has very underrated dribble moves that allow her to get to the basket with ease. Teams constantly face guard her and make it their defensive point of emphasis to not allow her to catch the ball. Finney is really good at running off screens and making herself open.
Mya Blake 5’3 2021 G (Golden City 17u GUAA)
Mya Blake was listed as a top performer in day one of the tournament and she followed up that performance with a nearly similar one in day 2. Blake could arguably have been the best performing guard of the tournament. She had herself a field day and impressed a lot of college coaches. She can handle the rock and run the show and is really tough to stop offensively. She has elite dribble moves and gets to the basket with ease. She excels are finishing through contact, capitalizing on numerous and-1 opportunities.
