Each day this week I will be putting out a few evaluations from that event. Today, we take a look at 12 uncommitted prospects in the 2021 class in two parts. Each part has six players in alphabetical order.
Abbie Draper — 6′ PF/SF — Lady Martin Brothers / Waverly Shell-Rock HS
Draper has been catching my eye for awhile now. She’s a mobile forward who will probably move to the power forward spot in college, but I can see her being someone that plays on the wing too. Very good as a slasher and driver where she finishes through contact very well. Her stock has been rising this spring, and with a good showing this past weekend you can expect that it will continue to climb.
Anaya Barney — 5’10 SF/SG — Lady Martin Brothers / Cedar Falls HS
Barney is one of the longest and most fluid players in the state. She is a menace on defense with all of her length and has a great ability to get to the rim and score the ball. Her perimeter shooting is improving and if that becomes a weapon, Barney is going to be even tougher to stop. This weekend she looked really good on both ends of the floor and she’ll be a stock riser in the near future.
Anna Lutz — 6’1 PF — Barium / Marshall HS (WI)
Having, obviously, not seen this Barium team from Wisconsin before I was intrigued to see what they could do matched up with some of the best teams in Iowa. They struggled a bit but Lutz played well. She’s a mobile and strong forward who can step out and knock down the perimeter jumper. She’s skillful, a solid passer for her size and is starting to gather some big time college interest.
Cassidy Thompson — 6’1 PF — CY Select / Ballard HS
There isn’t a ton of height in the 2021 class and I think that Thompson has the potential to be one of the better post players in the state. She’s skilled with the ball, runs the floor well, and generally makes the right plays. Thompson does need to gain strength and ability to finish around the rim but once that comes, she could be very sought after. This weekend she showed her handling ability and instincts as CY Select only had five players in game one.
Ellie Bulman — 5’9 SF — All Iowa Attack National / Gilbert HS
Bulman has been a player long on my radar on a very talented Gilbert team. Seeing her in the summer just makes me like her even more. She’s a very athletic wing who is starting to become very consistent in her shot. Bulman has great reactions and on defense she is becoming more of a player who can lock her opponent down. She should see her stock rise over the next few years because she’s a definite scholarship kid.
Grace Larkins — 5’9 SF — All Iowa Attack EYBL 2020 / Southeast Polk HS
Even though the updated rankings haven’t come out, Larkins is the definite top player in the 2021 class. She showed why again this weekend as she was all over the floor for a depleted EYBL team. She’s got a great feel for the game and combines that with great floor vision. She is strong, tough-nosed, and makes everyone around her better. Southeast Polk is now “her team” so colleges will be watching her this year very closely.
