Each day this week I will be putting out a few evaluations from that event. Today, we take a look at 12 uncommitted prospects in the 2022 class in two parts. Each part has six players in alphabetical order.
Claire Schmitz — 5’10 PF —
Western Iowa Express
/ Harlan HS
Schmitz is such a hard working player. She has all of the physical attributes and the skill is starting to catch up. She is one of the most vocal players on the floor. Her communication is great and makes her stand out. Schmitz is a player who is a really solid “glue guy” who you love to have on your team. Love her ability to get things done on both ends of the floor.
Emma Ingersoll-Weng — 5’5 PG — All Iowa Attack Nike Black / Iowa City West
Ingersoll-Weng is one of those players who you see flashes of and just know that she can be really good. She was shooting the ball really well from the perimeter but was also getting to the rim really well. She is starting to play with a bit more confidence and is starting to come into her own. Ingersoll-Weng is a small guard and when she’s aggressive, she’s one of the best in the state.
Lucy Schaffer — 5’7 PG — All Iowa Attack Nike Black / North Polk HS
Schaffer played really well this past weekend and was very consistent. She’s a good ball-handler with ability to run the offense. She’s a consistent threat in the North Polk lineup and her game is continuing to expand this summer. She is taking a step forward with her game and it is starting to show. Very solid at both guard positions and will have an expanded role this upcoming season.
Meredith Rieker — 5’8 SG — All Iowa Attack Nike Black / Valley HS
Rieker was really impressive this past weekend. She was shooting the ball really well and finding the open man. She plays with a fluidness to her game that a lot of players can’t match on the floor. I really want to see her start to be more aggressive on both ends of the floor. Rieker should be a key player this upcoming season for Valley and she’s starting to show that she can handle a bigger scoring load this summer.
Sophie Sonnichsen — 5’7 SG —
Western Iowa Express
/ Denison-Schleswig
Sonnichsen is a player who I hadn’t seen yet coming into this game and I thought that she played really well. She’s a good shooter with the ability to get to the rim off of the drive. She is a solid defender who is versatile enough to play on both wings and guards. She’s got a great motor and just goes and goes. Sonnichsen is a player to watch over the next few years because the potential is there.
Taylor Veach — 5’8 SG/SF — Lady Martin Brothers / Central DeWitt HS
Veach is one of the top players in the 2022 class and it all starts with her production. She has a lot of potential and is already a 2022 that coaches have on their radars. She’s really strong with a solid frame to hold strength. This weekend the lefty showed that she can score both inside the paint and around the perimeter. Central DeWitt is going to be in good hands with all of the youth they have on the team.
