Today, a look at a county that has a history of producing some very prolific scorers, including a handful of 2,000 point scorers over the years.
Clark County was created in 1818 and named after General George Rogers Clark, a hero in the American Revolution. Not only is it the home of several high schools, but Wittenberg and Clark State are the two colleges in the county.
Here are five players to watch this coming season:
Reagan Ware, 5-7 Greenon– One of the best pure shooters in Ohio, Ware is a 2020 who looks to lead the Knights to the top of the Ohio Heritage Conference. Excellent handles with both hands, smooth guard who can score from the perimeter at deep range. Can also get to the rim and score. Very proficient from the free throw line. Moves well without the ball well to get open. Strong basketball IQ, very coachable kid.
Mae Mastin, 5-5 Tecumseh– playing on a senior-laded team last year, Mastin showed that she was one of the top freshman in the area. Outstanding ball control and runs the offense well. Can handle with both hands, quick and athletic. Defensively, excellent on-ball defender. Can run for days, and excellent on the break. Coaches kid and a good quarterback on the floor.
Mallory Mullen, 6-0 Springfield Catholic Central- one of the best all around athletes in Ohio, and her basketball game is improving. Continuing to work on her game around the basket. Long and athletic kid who can jump out of the gym. Strong on the boards, rebounds and secures.
Serenity Castle, 5-7 Springfield Catholic Central- will be a solid backcourt addition to a vastly improved Irish team. A great compliment to the all-county guard Abigail Peterson. Hard working guard who has improved, and is ready to contribute. Good handles, solid defender and runs the floor well.
Mickayla Perdue, 5-8 Springfield- the most offensively skilled player in the county, Perdue has drawn several Division One offers. The 2021 is outstanding from the perimeter, with deep range and will pull the trigger anytime. Quick release. Excellent handles, pushes the ball in transition and will finish at the rim. Outstanding passer.
