Although residents of Clinton County typically look forward to the Banana Split Festival, Blanchester Crabfest, and Holidazzle Parade – they also get excited to watch the county’s 4 HS girls basketball teams. These schools lose some outstanding seniors from their programs, but these returners should help fill the void.
Let’s take a look at a number of talented underclassmen from Clinton County.

Jasmine is a quick guard who possesses the ability to score the basketball at a high rate or create open shots for her teammates. She is active defensively, where she gets a number of deflections. She seems to be more natural at the point guard spot, but could play either guard spot at the college level.
Patience Chowning – Clinton Massie – 5’6 Guard – Class of 2020
Chowning is a solid 3-point threat from her off-guard spot. She will be expected to lead the way offensively and handle the ball more for Clinton Massie next winter. At this point in her career, she is a true jump shooter who would rather score a majority of her points with her feet set, as opposed to attacking the rim.
McKenzie Avery – Clinton Massie – 5’6 Guard – Class of 2021
A point guard who still has a lot of potential, Avery is a good passer who often gets her teammates quality looks throughout the course of a game. She needs to become a better shooter, but is certainly very effective as a driver of the basketball. She is a great defender on the ball and also gets a fair number of steals from her help-side positioning.
Elecia Patton set the state record for steals in a single game this year with 19. (Photo Credit: Wilmington News Journal)Elecia Patton – Blanchester – Class of 2022
Patton burst onto the scene as the county’s top freshman during the 2018-2019 campaign. She is an explosive/volume scorer who gets a number of her points in transitions off of steals. She is dangerous from 3-point range and is also solid at the FT line. Elecia should continue to get better at taking care of the basketball as she gets older and settles into a lead-guard role.
Karlie Morgan – Wilmington – 5’10 Post – Class of 2020
Morgan is a big and strong power forward/center who has a nose for rebounding at a high level. She is usually one of the toughest kids on the floor and has no problem finishing through contact around the rim. When she has a true “big” on her – she will step out and shoot the 3 at a high percentage.
