Coshocton County has been translated from the Delaware Indian language as “union of waters” and “black bear crossing”. It is believed that Chief Newcomer – an important ally to the Continental forces in the American Revolutionary War – was the founder of Coshocton County. World Series winning manager Bob Brenly is also from Coshocton County – as are a number of great high school girls basketball players.
Let’s take a look at a number of talented underclassmen from Coshocton County.
Kalie Rettos is an outstanding shooter. (Photo Credit: Newcomerstown News)Kalie Rettos – Ridgewood – 5’7 Guard – Class of 2020
Rettos is one of the best shooters in the area. She has walk-in-the-gym range and is especially effective in catch-and-shoot situations. A good athlete, Rettos is solid defensively guarding any of the 3 guard spots. She is a high IQ player whose game should translate well to the D3 level if she chooses to continue her career upon graduation.
Jessica Hartstock – River View – 5’7 Guard – Class of 2020
Hartstock has tremendous range on her jumper. She is a very good 3-point shooter who can hit from deep off of the bounce, as well as standing still. She is a good ball-handler who rarely forces anything and does a good job of getting hear teammates involved. She is a great athlete who still has a lot of potential.
Keeley Murray – Coshocton – 5’3 Guard – Class of 2022
The point guard is a great athlete who lettered in 3 different sports during her freshmen year at Coshocton. Keeley attacks defenses well and has a nice mid-range game. A good passer and creator, Murray is also a good defender typically guards the other team’s best guard.
Kelsie Stephens – Ridgewood – 5’11 Post – Class of 2022
Stephens had a solid freshman season for Ridgewood. The post should continue to develop as an offensive threat – she currently can step out to 15 feet and knock down jumpers. She does most of her damage in transition, beating slower and less athletic posts up and down the court. She is a good rebounder and has the potential to be a great rim protector.
