Gallia County was formed in 1803 by pieces of Adams County and Washington County. Gallia County was settled by French immigrants from Gaul – hence the name Gallia County. It doesn’t feature many high schools with girls basketball, but it does have some good players returning to the courts next year.
Let’s take a look at a number of talented underclassmen from Gallia County.
Gallia Academy could count on Maddy Petro to give them a double-double on most nights during the 2018-2019 season. (Photo Credit: Pomeroy Daily Sentinel)Maddy Petro – Gallia Academy – 5’9 Post – Class of 2021
Maddy was a walking double-double during her sophomore season, averaging 11.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. The undersized post uses her motor and athleticism to get the job done. One of the more active players on the court each night, Petro blocks a lot of shots and steals a lot of passes around the paint.
Jessie Rutt – South Gallia – 5’6 Guard – Class of 2022
Only a freshman, Rutt was her team’s best player during the 2018-2019 season. The point guard does it all. She scored nearly 14 PPG on the year, while also grabbing a handful of rebounds, creating easy scoring opportunities for her teammates and setting the tone of the defensive end for South Gallia. She is a good 3-point shooter.
Hannah Jacks – River Valley – 5’8 Forward – Class of 2021
Jacks is a guard/forward “tweener” who does a nice job of working mismatches on the offensive end. A tough kid, Hannah averaged over 8 rebounds last year to go with her 11 points per game. Although she isn’t a point guard, she has no problem handling the ball against pressure and does a nice job of finishing around the basket with both hands.
