This year’s event was no different and it was ran in conjunction with the adidas Gauntlet in the same area. Premier Basketball hosted the Silver Gauntlet teams, as well as top independent teams from around the country and younger adidas, under armour and Nike sponsored programs at the 14u/15u levels. The event attracted over 100 college coaches of various levels and many adidas Platinum Gauntlet teams also participated in one showcase game in the Heart of Texas. Now, onto the players, here’s who stood out in the games that Prep Girls Hoops was present at.
Heart of Texas Standouts, Part 1:
2021 6’1 SF Gwen Gilmore (BYC: Blue) – Tall wing-forward player with a solid frame and overall strong body. Showed the ability to finish with either hand and runs the floor well.
2023 6’1 G Samantha Wagner (SA Finest Team Dungee) – One of the most coveted 2023 recruits in the country showed why in the Heart of Texas. She is a taller wing/guard that possesses a strong skill set beyond her years. She has offers from multiple Big-12 schools and a strong following of college coaches from around the country.
2020 6’2 PF Kate Thompson (Lady Flames Elite) – Skilled forward with developing go-to post moves. She looks like she is growing very comfortable with her back to the basket and can finish with either hand on the block. Runs the floor well! Division 1 prospect.
2023 5’5 G Journee Chambers (Team Lex) – Explosively athletic front guard that is very good in the open floor. Held her own playing up against older competition. One to watch moving forward!
2021 5’5 G Julianna Walker (NW Greyhounds) – One of the best shooters in the entire event. She can really pull from deep and shoots it a high rate when she is hot. One of the things that stood out to me the most was her ability to find the open teammate. A lot of people talk about her shooting, but she is an underrated passer.
2020 5’10 G Nakia Boston (NW Greyhounds) – Nakia is playing in her first season with the Greyhounds, but she look fairly comfortable nonetheless. She has a natural feel for the game and really sees the floor well on her skip passes. She has interest from some mid major programs.
