Continue ReadingAt the recent Desert Invitation in Phoenix, Arizona, there was a lot of top tier talent playing against one another. From sponsored teams, to Kobe Bryant’s daughters team, there was nothing short of constant entertainment. With this being said, in addition to the other stand out players, there were a few hidden gems dispersed throughout the tournament. These players were one of the top standouts on their teams & helped prevail them to victory or support them along the way there.
Cadence Davis, C/O 2021, Williams Field High School, Az Swish
Cadence Davis is the type of guard all others fear playing. Although she’s not 6’0 tall, all of her other assets make her just as deadly. To start off, this girls court vision is phenomenal! From left & right Cadence can see the open man & get her the ball with ease. With an array of different passes, defenders can only watch as she throws a perfect bounce pass right he the side of their leg. On her Az Swish team, she is seen as one of the leaders & it is clear that the game is different when she is not in it. In addition to this, she has nice offensive moves & defense stance to accompany the rest of her game. As Cadence continues to grow as a player, she is going to continue to become more & more lethal.
Mariah Clark, C/O 2020, Pueblo High School, Dizzy Squad
Mariah Clark is a true under the radar player. Her versatility is phenomenal! With her height & agility, she is a player of great importance on all of her teams. One thing Mariah does very well is never back down. It does not matter who she is guarding, how big they are, or how skilled they are, she is going to D them up & do an extraordinary job at it. In addition to this, although she is tall, she moves with the swiftness of a guard. In game, she looks comfortable and in control constantly. As this is true, being like this helps her to be a leader on the team & showcase all of her skills at the highest level. People need to start taking note of Mariah fast before she blows people out of the water.
Aaliyah Garcia, C/O 2023, Dobson High School
Aaliyah is an up and coming player that is going to be an interesting one to watch in high school. Already, as an 8th grader, she is taking on high school opponents easily. With a killer combination of amazing court vision and quickness to the basket, she is a very hard player to stop. She is able to control the game to be the way that she wants it to be and more. It does not matter the age of the people she is going up against, she will not back down. In addition to these features of her game, Aaliyah is able to anticipate where the ball is going to go so having 3-4 steals a game is cake to her. With the beginning of high school just around the corner, Aaliyah’s possibility for improvement is limitless.
