Once again my primary objective was to find specific prospects and try to catch up on players I haven’t seen yet this spring, or players I felt like I needed to see again. Below is a look at six such young ladies in Indiana’s Classes of 2022 and 2023 who I thought played well when I was able to see them.
Maggie Keinsley, 2022, 5-10 F, Homestead H.S., Always 100 Swish 15U
I had never seen Maggie until this past weekend, and she is quite intriguing to me. She has really nice length, she’s a fluid athlete in all directions, and she plays with a good motor. Throughout much of the first half, I thought she was more of a true post, but as the game wore on, she began handling the ball some in transition, looking to score it in the mid-post, and she was much more active around the perimeter. I think she’s probably more of a face-up ‘4’ right now, but she does have enough ability that if her perimeter skillset continues to develop, I can see her transitioning into more of a wing long-term.
Teresa Maggio, 2022, 5-4 PG, Lafayette Jefferson H.S., Nike Lady Gym Rats Gold EYBL 16U
We’ve written about Teresa a couple of times before, she comes in at #13 right now in our Class of 2022 rankings, but it’s games like she had this weekend that show the reason she’s highly thought of here and throughout the state. She is one of the most complete small guards in the state, regardless of class. She’s very quick/fast, athletic, wiry, feisty, and as tough as they come. She fears no one, and she is always on attack. This past weekend she had a game where she knocked down EIGHT 3-pointers, and while I’ve seen her shoot it outside before, I’ve never seen her shoot it like that. I’m used to a kid who is dynamic off the bounce, so this really opens up her possibilities offensively if she can keep this up.
Rebekah Marshall, 2022, 5-9 F, Columbia City H.S., Always 100 Swish 15U
This was my first time seeing Rebekah play, though I had heard several good things about her coming into this viewing. She is a long, versatile, and skilled forward who can play effectively on the perimeter and in the mid-post. She is a fluid forward who I wish was just a little more explosive, but I honestly think that will come as she continues to add strength. She put it on the floor productively, knocked down mid-range jumpers consistently, and she was calm/poised at all times, plus she battled inside on the boards. She strikes me as one of those kids who is very skilled but is just starting to come into her own physically, so once she finishes growing and learns how to absorb contact, I think her game will go to another level.
Olivia Smith, 2022, 5-3 PG, Fort Wayne South Side H.S., Always 100 Elite 16U
In our report for the Class of 2021, we mentioned the backcourt of this Always 100 Elite team, and Olivia my be their heart & soul. She’s a kid who I really look forward to seeing when I know I’m going to watch her team play. She is tough, strong, athletic, and she just has a natural feel for the game. She is very dynamic off the bounce, she changes directions well and quickly, and she has a good sense of where all of her teammates are and can find them in an instant. She has always been good shooting the pull-up or finishing around the basket, but now she’s starting to shoot it outside a little more, and that can only help open up driving lanes.
Emily Todd, 2022, 5-6 PG, Norwell H.S., Always 100 -Todd 15U
I had never seen or heard of Emily until this past weekend, and I stumbled onto her by going to watch this team to make sure I had seen them at least once this Spring. What I found was a skilled, heady, and capable point guard prospect whose game could really take off in the near future. Emily is very long, and she’s more fluid and smooth than truly explosive. She glides around the floor effortlessly, she handles the ball with her head up and doesn’t stress over pressure, and she typically delivers the right pass on time/on target every time. She plays with a veteran’s poise and really helps this team compete with much more talented teams because she limits turnovers. I would like to see her again to see if and how she can score the ball, but she is a really nice, young, true point guard prospect.
Amiyah Reynolds, 2023, 5-11 W, South Bend Washington H.S., Michigan Crossover 15U
While you might not know much about Amiyah, her sister Mila is our #2 ranked prospect in the 2022 class, and Mila put up big numbers as a Freshman for Washington this year. Amiyah is every bit as talented, but a little different stylistically. Amiyah is an extremely long, slender, but fluid and athletic wing. She handles and passes it like a point guard, and she has a tremendous feel for the game. She has good shot mechanics, and she’s almost automatic in the 15-foot range right now, plus she can knock down the occasional 3-pointer. I think as she gets stronger, her perimeter shooting will be very consistent and her range will lengthen. She’s also versatile defensively and can take on guards, wings, and smaller forwards. She is a ballplayer and a talent, and really just adding some strength will change her game immensely. She is one of the top 2023s in Indiana and could end up being the best of the bunch.
