Prospect Spotlight: Kendall Clatt (2021)
It was a rough year this past season for Indianola as they went 9-11 following a 21-4 campaign. The transfer of Iowa State commit Maggie McGraw to Southeast Polk might have had something to do with it, but nevertheless the future is bright for Indianola. This season, Indianola had three underclassmen score in double figures. One of those players was Kendall Clatt. The 5’10 guard scored 11.1 points a game last season to lead the team. If this summer is any indication, next year will be even better for Clatt.
“Coming off of my freshman season I think I shot the ball very well,” Clatt said. “I tried to be the best leader for our incoming freshman as I could, we had a very young team this year so trying to get good chemistry as quick as we could was key.”
Clatt did indeed shoot the ball well this past season as she made 42.9 percent of her attempts from behind the arc. Her game isn’t predicated on getting those shots to drop either as she is such a good finisher at the rim. Her basketball IQ is off the charts and Clatt has a great feel for the game. Clatt is a solid scorer at all three levels and it has been on display this spring.
“I think the summer is going well so far,” Clatt said. “I am using each tournament to help me determine what parts of my game I need to work on to become an even more complete player. I am trying to raise all levels of my game this summer.”
Her game is being noticed by college coaches around the state and Clatt isn’t satisfied. Being a guard she has a lot of things that she has to work on within her game to keep it fresh. Clatt is running with Lady Pure Prep this summer and she is working on quite a few things. Most notable is her speed within her game in aspects.
“I want to improve my ball handling and getting around defenders quicker,” Clatt said. “I am working on having a quicker release on my shot as well. I am also trying to become a better defender on and off of the ball.”
With the impending season coming up, Indianola should be a much improved team and ready to make noise. Clatt is going to be a key component to the success of her team this upcoming year. With continued success, Clatt is going to be a sought after scholarship athlete in the coming years.
“I am most looking forward to building on what we started last year with the goal to make a run at state,” Clatt said.” We have a good core and need to continue to improve and get more familiar playing together.”
