Prospect Spotlight: Moriah Prewitt (2021)
Des Moines Christian was a solid team this past year. They made it to the state tournament where they fell to the eventual champions, Center Point-Urbana. Even though the season ended with a loss, Des Moines Christian has a lot to look forward to over the next few years. Despite having three of their top four scorers be seniors, they were a relatively young team. With just those three seniors on the team, Des Moines Christian is turning the reigns over to their junior class. One player in particular is in store for a huge junior campaign.
Moriah Prewitt is a 5’9 combo guard who is having a solid AAU campaign this year. She is improved her game in almost every aspect already this summer and should be a player who explodes onto the scene next year. Having a few high scoring seniors on her team this past year brought her numbers down a little bit, but Prewitt is very capable of scoring with the best in the state. She’s an efficient scorer who is still getting better. Last season Prewitt scored 10.9 points a game while shooting 42 percent from behind the arc. Her shooting has improved this offseason as has her ability to attack the basket.
“My high school season went great,” Prewitt said. “As a team we put in a lot of work in the offseason and you could definitely tell on the court. We all had the same goal in mind and it was cool to see that be accomplished.”
Prewitt is a player who has been able to do a lot while running with Kingdom Hoops this summer. She is playing on both the 16U and 17U team at times, thus gaining a ton of experience. She’s gained good weight so far this spring which includes a ton of muscle and is paying dividends on her finishing ability inside. She’s also gotten quicker and tightened up her ball handling, both things that will help her if she stays on the ball at the next level. Prewitt has been a workhorse at getting better this summer and her improvements are quickly showing.
“I think my AAU season is going great so far,” Prewitt said. “I love all the girls and coaches I work with and it has been fun getting to know them more. This season I have really started to understand what real hard work can do and how if you put in time it will pay off. This summer I am really working hard on becoming quicker and overall moving faster. I am also working on how to get shots off without having to get all the way into the lane.
This upcoming high school season is going to be huge for Prewitt as college coaches are going to be able to see her improvement. Not only will she be able to show that improvement, Prewitt will also be able to show them how she can handle pressure. You can be sure that Prewitt will be subjected to her fair share of double and triple teams.
