Q&A with Abi Tarrant (2021)
The Michigan Cagers AAU program is making waves this summer and 5’9 wing Abi Tarrant is a big reason why. Tarrant is playing really well this summer and is a big reason why the Cagers are winning a lot of games. Tarrant is a very versatile player who can create space for herself. She is a very good shooter and is deadly from behind the arc and in the mid-range. She’s a slick lefty who is also becoming a better defender. I really enjoy how hard Tarrant plays and the knowledge of the game that she carries. The Bay City John Glenn product has already started to receive college interest due to her stellar play.
Tarrant is a player who you love to watch with her basketball IQ. She’s always a step ahead of the defense and making plays for her team. I love Tarrant’s ability to create opportunities for her teammates when she isn’t scoring the ball. She moves well without the ball and is starting to run off screens better to get herself open. Tarrant is still improving this year and with two seasons of high school basketball left, she’s going to become a huge hassle for opponents. I spoke with her about this past year, her strengths, recruiting, and more below.
How’d you think this past high school season went?
My high school season went well. The team came together really well but we ended up losing to Freeland, who made the state finals, in the district championship. We’re really going to miss all the seniors we lost but I think we can be just as strong next year and hopefully make a run.
How do you think your AAU season is going this year?
AAU is going great. Our team has had a few injuries and hopefully everyone gets back and stays healthy. We’ve only lost a few games so far and we’ve won a couple tournaments.
What are you working on the most this summer?
This summer I’m working on becoming stronger and more explosive. My goal is be able jump higher and increase my speed.
What are your goals for the rest of the summer?
My goals for the rest of the summer are to continue to work hard, get stronger and increase my shooting percentages as the summer goes on.
How’s the recruiting process going for you?
Recruiting wise I’m doing pretty well. I have been to a couple open gyms, am working on scheduling a few college visits and am excited for my first full summer camp season!
