We saw some stellar performances as well as some great games. There were 10 players who performed well each time we saw them. View the top ten performers (in alphabetical order) from the weekend below!
Audi Crooks — 2023 6’1 C — CY Select Alpha 2023 / Bishop Garrigan HS
Crooks has been solidifying her spot at the top of the 2023 class each time I have seen her. She’s so strong and smooth around the basket. Her footwork is great and she is one of the toughest players to score on in the paint. Crooks grabs pretty much every ball off the rim and she’s a big reason why this team is so dominant, even when they play up. Definitely a player that you have to see over the next few years.
Ella Collison — 2021 5’9 G/W — Play4Him White 2021 / Carroll HS
Collison played well this past year in high school, but this was the first time I have been able to see her this summer. She has gained a ton of muscle and it has helped her game out a lot. She’s more mobile and able to fly around the floor a lot faster. She just looked more confident on the floor too. Collison is a fast riser in the 2021 class and has a huge ceiling.
Ella Larsen — 2021 5’9 W/F — Play4Him White 2021 / Newell-Fonda HS
I really enjoyed watching Larsen play this weekend. She is such a complete player and knows the game inside and out. Love her ability to be able to play both on the perimeter and on the inside. For Newell-Fonda it seems like she played more of an inside role, but I think I like her versatility better on the wing. She’s able to make plays and create for herself on the outside. Larsen is a player to watch in the 2021 class.
Ellie Foster — 2020 5’10 PG — Iowa Prep Red 2020 / Dike New-Hartford HS
Foster was great all weekend long and I mean really, really good. She’s so fluid with the ball and can make things happen so quickly. She has great floor vision and can put passes on a dime for her teammates. Foster has the ability to separate from her defender with the best in the state. A few times I saw her crossover into a step back and drain a shot. She also made a fadeaway 3-pointer to tie the game in the 17U championship with less than three seconds left. Such a fun player to watch.
Kendall Clatt — 2021 5’10 SG — Lady Pure Prep Gold 2020 / Indianola HS
Since seeing Clatt play in high school, I can tell she has improved a lot this summer already. She looked really confident with the ball this weekend. Her ability to finish at the rim through strength has gotten a lot better too. Her feel for the game is really good, and while she is probably an off guard at the next level she can handle it when needed. Clatt handled pressure really well this weekend and I think a big summer is in store for her.
Lauren Conrey — 2020 5’8 SG — Iowa Prep Red 2020 / Waterloo West HS
Conrey was on fire in the first game that I saw her play. She was knocking down everything and I don’t believe I saw her miss a shot. She has a really smooth outside shot and you could kind of tell she was in a rhythm. The second game I saw her play she didn’t shoot it as well, but did everything else well. She’s a solid on-ball defender and can lock down her opponent when she wants to. I really loved the motor she played with as well. Definitely someone who is a bit under-the-radar to this point.
Mallory McCall — 2021 5’9 F/W — Play4Him White 2021 / West Monona HS
McCall is a threat to score with each touch of the basketball. She is a very sturdy and skilled forward who garners quite a bit of length. This past weekend was great for her as she scored through strength, but also moved really well. McCall is really sneaky athletic as she also holds the ability to take you off the bounce if she’s got the ball away from the rim. Really efficient scorer who is starting to expand her game out from the rim a bit as well.
Molly Hoekstra — 2020 5’11 F/W — Kingdom Hoops 2020 / Carlisle HS
Hoekstra was on her game this weekend. She played really well in the championship game especially. She’s a very versatile player who has the ability to play multiple spots. Her ability to score at all three levels was on full display as she was making shots from deep and getting to the basket. Hoekstra runs the floor really well and sets herself up to get the ball and score. Her game is kind of under-the-radar right now but with a big summer I can see her grabbing a few more offers.
Moriah Prewitt — 2021 5’9 SG/PG — Kingdom Hoops 2021 / Des Moines Christian HS
Prewitt played with both the 2020 and the 2021 Kingdom Hoops team this weekend. Because of that I was able to see her a couple different times. She is much quicker and stronger than she was during the high school season and it is paying off. She has the ability to handle the ball really well, but she can also shoot it with the best in the state. Early on, Prewitt was knocking down shots this weekend but then switched to more of a playmaking guard. It was nice to see her have the ability to do both well.
Paige Rocca — 2020 5’9 SG — Kingdom Hoops 2020 / Iowa City HS
Rocca was excellent this weekend. She was torching the nets the entire weekend and made over 20 3-pointers this past weekend. She has really improved over the past few months and is now much more confident with the ball in her hands. Love her aggressiveness and willingness to attack the basket. Rocca is scoring the ball better at the rim now as well. She was a big catalyst for Kingdom Hoops and a big reason they were in the position they were in.
