Continue ReadingSummer ball is where players put in the work to get better and to show off their game. The first refresh of the Kansas site’s rankings since it’s January launch occurred a couple days ago. The refresh has supplied an opportunity to shine some light on centers that are putting in the time so they not only can help their high school teams make championship runs but to to improve their prospects of continuing to play after high school. The class of 2020 has a number of centers but this article will focus on those I know who are playing club ball this summer and might be on fewer radars.
#94 Overall Aiden Moxness 6’3″ Shawnee Mission West, Kansas Elite – Moxness is a player I have seen the least of those included in this article. What stands out though is she has more length than most other centers, causing a lot of altered shots. Another bonus, she runs well in transition.
#33 Overall Kassie Kinniburgh 6’1″ Valley Center, Wheat State Elite – Kinniburgh can catch. In a high school season where inexperienced and often overmatched teammates had difficulty with entry passes Kinniburgh caught most of what was thrown near her. Combined with her solid build, her post moves resulted in finishes. She is also a strong offensive rebounder, shoots 80% from the line, and has solid enough ball handling ability to help guards handle back court pressure. The biggest leak in her game is on defensive end. Improvement in her defensive rebounding, including boxing out on the weak side, is needed. She also needs to improve her perimeter shooting game and bolster her vertical. Further development of her already good post play will make her an even bigger threat. Kinniburgh was second team Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div II in 2019.
#69 Zanaa Cordis, 6’3″ Manhattan, Lady Prospects – Cordis has developed the most post weapons of the three…and she has a big, strong build. If she can get quicker she will be very difficult to handle. Add some perimeter ability and continue sharpening her kick-out passing, look out. Substantial upside with this center.
Author’s Correction, Aiden Moxness is a 2021 center.
