Continue ReadingThis is the fifth installment of a series about updated 2020 rankings that again features players who either might not be the centers of attention, are under the radar, and/or lower ranked players whose game is needing a little more development than others. And as with the previous four installments, players included must be players whom I am aware of their summer club involvement.
We’re closing in on four weeks since the first refresh of the Kansas site’s rankings occurred. The refresh grew my list of ranked players to 107. Inclusion in this article are combo guards who may play some point as well as wing in addition to the traditionally labeled shooting guard position they most likely play or are likely to play at the next level.
#39 Demi Aamold, 5’6″, Wellsville, Next Level Eclipse 17U Blue — Shoots from the perimeter quickly off the dribble, catch, and over screens well. Three point shooter with 25′ range. Good transition speed who gets shot up quickly on the finish. A KBCA 3A second team all-state selection.
#46 Neleh Davis, 5’7″, Olpe, Ohlde Elite 17U Yellow — A strong three point shooter. Selected to the Lyon County League all-league second team. Topeka Capital Journal 1A honorable mention all-state. Olpe 23-0 until losing to Hanover in state tournament quarterfinals.
#48 Tianna Lohse, 5’8″, Hanover, Ohlde Elite 17U Yellow — A player used to winning…a lot. She hit a game winning three to win a 2017 state championship, Hanover won another title in 2018, and finished runner up in 2019. Averaged 11.7 ppg, 2.8 apg, 2.7 spg, and shot 42% from the three point line (43% overall). A Topeka Capital Journal 1A all-state honorable mention and first team all-Twin Valley League selection.
#83 Aloera “Allie” Ostermann, 5’10”, Manhattan, Ohlde Elite 17U Yellow — Ostermann usually roams the perimeter looking to for a kickout for a spot-up three but also plays inside. Noteworthy is her ability to anticipate, from the weak side, a shot going up and will get into position for an offensive rebound. In limited varsity action this past season she averaged 6.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg, and 1.6 spg.
#53 Sophia Purcell, 5’6″, Topeka Hayden, Lady Prospects 17U Gauntlet — Team’s second leading scorer, gets to the paint, distributes well. Has drawn interest from NAIA schools. A Centennial League honorable mention selection.
#99 Mackenzie Shupe, 5’8″, De Soto, Kansas Elite — The De Soto guard is a strong three point shooter with good interior footwork to kick the ball out to the perimeter. She has good length and hands to work at the top of presses. This past season she set a school record for most steals in a season. Shupe was KBCA 5A honorable mention all-state and United Kansas Conference first team.
#78 Brooklyn Zoeller, 5’7″, Blue Valley Randolph, Lady Prospects 17U National — Zoeller averaged 15.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 3.5 apg, and 3.1 spg. Selected 1A honorable mention all-state by the Wichita Eagle and Topeka Capital Journal 1A honorable mention all-state.
