Power forward is a position that commonly includes players who play some center or small forward/wing. My perspective identifies players whose most likely position will be at the next level. As with the centers article attention is given to players known to be playing club ball this summer and whom might be under the radar.
Summer ball is where players put in the work to get better and to show off their game. The first refresh of the Kansas site’s rankings since it’s January launch occurred a couple days ago. The refresh has supplied an opportunity to shine some light on centers that are putting in the time so they not only can help their high school teams make championship runs but to to improve their prospects of continuing to play after high school. The class of 2020 has a number of centers but this article will focus on those I know who are playing club ball this summer and might be on fewer radars.
#72 Overall Aryeona Carter, 6’0″ Kansas City – Piper, SHOtime Basketball – Carter has a very active offensive game and is an athletic scorer from her back-to-basket game. She has a good motor and is able to lead the break end to end. She also is a good free throw shooter.
#19 Overall Lauren Cassaday, 5’10” Blue Valley North, Next Level Eclipse Blue Star 17U – Cassaday has good transition speed and a quick first step to the basket from the wing off the catch. Can finish through contact. A Eastern Kansas League second team selection in 2019.
#65 Overall Molly Kaemmer, 6’0″ Olathe East, Precision Athletics – Kaemmer averaged 9.6 ppg this past season. PGH’s Mason Asher’s report on her play at the Be The Best tournament. He said she plays tough inside the paint, is a solid rebounder, is not afraid of contact, and has the ability to score well inside. he describes her as a mobile player who wants the ball all the time in the post and is probably going to score when she gets it. A 2019 Kansas Basketball Coaches Association 6A honorable mention all-state pick.
#93 Overall Mandy Truitt, 6’0″ Olathe South, Kansas Elite – I had the opportunity to see Truitt play at the Mid-America Classic held at McPherson High School this past season and generally felt she needed more court time to help her develop. A victim of a being on a roster of a talent team. She’s seeing that time this summer. She has shown she has good transition speed and shot-blocking ability. She has the potential to become a solid all-around player.
#55 Overall Mia Vallery, 5’11” Gardner-Edgerton, Pride Elite – Vallery is solid on both ends of the floor. She has 10-12′ range with back-to-the-basket ability, runs well, can finish in transition, and has shown some shot-blocking ability.
