Now that they have officially combined with the Indiana Red Storm, they are able to field a pair of solid teams in each age group, and those teams have been very competitive each weekend. They have a variety of talented prospects throughout their program, with many of them coming from the Southern suburbs of Indianapolis, down into the Bloomington/Mitchell/Bedford area of the state.
Team Indiana Rising Stars 16U: This group, coached by Devon Melsheimer, is the more talented of the 16U groups, and they have several really nice college prospects spread throughout their roster. I wrote about her again yesterday, but I’ve really been impressed by the play of wing Mersadez “Irye” Gomez (2021) of Bedford North Lawrence. Her combination of wiry strength, athleticism, and skill make her a really nice college prospect. Lauren Sandrock (2021) of Franklin Community is one of the most intriguing prospects on this team. She is a long, fluid, and skillfully versatile forward who can play inside-out at about 5-11. Alexis Gibson (2021) of Jeffersonville is another really nice talent. She is a strong, powerful wing who attacks the basket aggressively. She is a nice athlete as well, and she can score it in bunches. Lauren Carie (2021) of Vincennes Rivet is a nice, tall, long, and fairly athletic big who does a variety of things at both ends of the floor. A little more strength could really solidify her game. Brooklyn Stubblefield (2021) of Greenwood Community is a quick/fast, feisty little guard who has had a really nice Spring so far. She can score the ball at all three levels, create for others, and she’s a tough defender as well. Zayda Hatfield (2021) of Terre Haute’s South Vigo is a long, wiry strong, fluid slasher who can handle the ball a little and run offense, create for others, and score the ball at all three levels herself. Kyra Baker (2021) of Franklin Community is a tough-nosed, strong, physical combo guard who is back following a Summer 2018 knee injury. I really like her grittiness and effort each possession. And I was impressed with Quinn Kelly (2022) of Greenwood Community when I saw her for the first time. She has a long, fairly athletic frame, and she’s skilled in the mid-post. This group will draw a ton of small college interest, but I anticipate some Division-I schools might be interested as well in a few of them.
Additional Notes: The Team Indiana South 16U group coached by Brittany Ross is the other 16U group in this program. They have several really nice players like Bailey Gibson (2021) of Jeffersonville, Emma Shelton (2021) of Jasper, Ajah Orr (2021) of Richmond, Anslee Michael (2021) of Terre Haute’s North Vigo, and a few others. Bailey Gibson is the twin of Alexis Gibson on Team Indiana Rising Stars. In the 15U age group, you have Team Indiana Red Storm 15U coached by Craig Eubanks and Team Indiana Futures 15U coached by Patrick Price. The Red Storm group is playing minus two of their best prospects in Kuryn Brunson (2022) of Franklin Community and Jozee Rhodes (2022) of Plainfield, both out with serious injuries. In their absence, Ella Paris (2022) of Center Grove and Ally Graber (2022) of Mooresville have stepped up. Team Indiana is also fielding a pair of 14U entries in Team Indiana Red Storm 14U coached by Rachel Parker and Team Indiana-Burton 14U coached by Greg Burton. The Red Storm group is all 2023 prospects, while the Burton group is a mixture of 2023s and 2024s.
