I spent my time watching Indiana teams and prospects I had yet to see, plus I checked in on some kids I felt like I needed to view one more time. Below is a look at seven such prospects in the classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024 who I thought played well Friday & Sunday at The Classic in Louisville, Kentucky, when I was able to see them in action.
Hadley Lytton, 2022, 5-5 PG, Heritage Hills H.S., Indiana Elite S.W.I.S.H. 15U
Hadley is a nice little point guard prospect who people in Southwestern Indiana will come to know very well. She is strong for her size, tough-nosed, and she has good quickness (she’s more quick than fast). She has a solid handle and good control of the offense, she does a nice job of driving into defenders and getting them on her hip, but she can also knock down outside shots when open and in rhythm. If over the next three years she can work on being just a bit more explosive and continue tightening up her entire skillset, I can see her drawing some Division-I interest. She’s just a really nice, typical Indiana guard.
Myah Montgomery, 2022, 6-0 W, Southridge H.S., Indiana Elite S.W.I.S.H. 15U
I have seen Myah’s 6-5 2021 brother the last couple of years, and he has drawn Division-I interest in basketball, baseball (MLB prospect as well), and football, so when I heard he had a younger sister, my assumption was she might have some of those same physical traits. Myah is a tall, fluidly athletic, and somewhat bouncy wing with great length. She is more upside than pure ballplayer right now, but as she finishes growing and gaining strength, I can really see her becoming dominant in the girls’ game. She already has a decent perimeter stroke at 6-feet tall, she can put it on the floor productively, and with her length and quickness, she’s versatile defensively as well. She will likely never be an interior player, so it will just be a matter of whether colleges see her as a ‘2’ or a ‘3’ long-term.
Maleea Roland, 2022, 5-6 G, New Albany H.S., Sky Digg Elite South-Phillips 15U
I saw Maleea nearly two years ago when she was entering her 8th Grade year, and I thought she had a lot of upside, but I wasn’t able to see New Albany this season. She is a long, wiry, fluid, and smooth athlete. She is best gliding by defenders off the bounce, and as she adds strength, I expect her to finish through contact consistently. She can make shots outside, but her shot selection could use a little bit of work. I just like her all-around feel and her talent on the floor, and I think she should be able to play either guard spot comfortably moving forward.
Brea Garber, 2023, 5-9 W, Fairfield H.S., Always 100 Gametime 15U
This was my first time seeing Brea, and I was very intrigued by her potential. She is a coach’s daughter, so you know she knows how to play, but Brea is also a long, fluid, and smooth athlete, she is versatile skillfully at the offensive end of the floor, and she’s a solid defender as well. She can play almost a point forward role offensively, she can go by defenders to score it, and she can knock down an open jumper when in rhythm. Defensively, she’s quick-footed enough to defend different types of guards, but she’s also tall and long enough to defend wings and forwards around her age as well. She’ll likely still grow a little, and once she gets stronger, I’ll be anxious to see how much that changes her productivity.
Monica Williams, 2023, 5-10 F, Lawrence North H.S., Lady Team Teague 15U
Monica is an interesting forward prospect who possesses a nice combination of skill and talent. She is long, she has broad shoulders and should be able to add good muscle weight, and she moves well in all directions and has some bounce to her. She is comfortable handling it at times, but she could stand to tighten her handle a bit as she transitions to the wing. She’ll also need to work on a consistent perimeter jumper, but she is very effective in the mid-post right now. Lawrence North returns nearly everyone from a season ago, so it will benefit her to probably play Junior Varsity, get stronger, and work on her skillset this coming year.
Talia Harris, 2024, 5-6 PG, Fall Creek J.H., Lady Team Teague 15U
Talia is a younger sister of South Carolina and former Heritage Christian star Tyasha Harris. Talia is built a little differently, as she’s a longer, wirier prospect, and she is very smooth and fluid. She looks like she still might grow a few inches, and that would only enhance her possibilities. She is a point guard by nature, she is always under control, she has great ball skill, and she’s a nice passer. Right now, she’s best getting to the basket and finishing with an array of pull-ups and floaters, but I’d expect her to be a much more consistent perimeter shooter once she gains strength. She is definitely a talented youngster, but it will take some time letting her develop physically before we really know what she’s capable of.
Chloe Spreen, 2024, 5-7 G, Bedford M.S., Nike Lady Gym Rats Turquoise 14U
Chloe is another really talented young guard who has already drawn a great deal of attention this Spring. She is wiry strong for her age, she’s a nice athlete in all directions, and she’s just a smooth and versatile player. She has a nice-looking perimeter jumper and a quick release, she can attack her peers with her strength to finish around the basket, and she can handle it and run offense. She is just a complete guard with very few weaknesses. She also seems very coachable and plays with a good motor. I have a feeling you’ll be hearing a lot about her over the next five seasons.
