Several of the top teams in the state were in attendance, which created some great games with high-level players. Here are some players that stood out in the class of 2020:
Tyler Mayne (IL Elite 17) – A 5’8’’ PG from Evanston HS, Mayne is a strong playmaker on both ends. She is a physical player that really uses her strength to her advantage. Has the ability to knock down shots from deep.
Isis Fitch (IL Elite 17) – Fitch is a 6’2’’ Forward from Andrew High School that dominates in the low post. Her size is tough to match up against, which gives her a great rebounding edge against most opponents on both offense and defense.
Ashley Berry (Example Sports 17 Rise) – A 5’6’’ PG from Benet Academy, Berry is a floor general that knows how to effectively get the offense going. Playing with a “pass-first” mentality, she is constantly looking to make her teammates successful. Perhaps her best attribute is hounding the opposing PG and constantly disrupting the opposing offense.
Capria Brown (Example Sports 17 Wolfpack) – A top player in the 2020 class, Brown knows how to take over a game. The 5’9’’ Guard from Schlarman HS is as well-rounded as they come. She can handle it, pass it, and shoot it at an elite level. What makes her even more dangerous is the ability to lock down opposing Guards on the defensive end.
Evey Evans (Example Sports 17 Wolfpack) – The best pure shooter I saw this weekend, Evans is everything you want in a spot-up shooter. The 5’10’’ Bradley Bourbonnais prospect has a consistent shot from deep and knows how to get herself open. Also able to guard post players on the opposing team.
Ava Zaslavsky (Full Package 17 Black Pratt) – A 5’6’’ PG from New Trier, Zaslavsky leads the offense well and is always looking to set up her teammates. She’s quick with the ball and able to make things happen in the lane. Can also catch fire from three and hit at a high mark.
Kayla Henning (Mac Irvin Fire 17 Godfather) – A 5’8’’ PG from Evanston High School, Henning is a lock down defender who is constantly giving the opposing Guards fits. She leads the break well and has excellent court vision to go along with a solid outside shot.
Dash Shaw (Mac Irvin Fire 17 Godfather) – Shaw is a 5’7’’ spark-plug from Gary Westside that can really get her team going. She showed great hands on defense and led the break well with a strong finish at the hoop.
