This is a list of five players who we thought either improved the most or started to garner more interest from their play. There are so many players around Iowa who had a great spring so it was tough to narrow it down. Here are five 2021 players who we think had a tremendous spring AAU season.
Katie Dinnebier — 5’7 PG — All Iowa Attack EYBL / Waukee HS
Out of everyone throughout the state I am pretty confident when I say that Dinnebier has seen her stock rise the most regardless of class. She looks like she is finally back 100% from her knee injury freshman year. Due to that injury not many people throughout the state knew about Dinnebier, but she’s one of the top players in the state. A fluid playmaking guard who is one of the best defenders on the state. She’s gotten a ton of Division I interest and soon the offers will start to flow.
Riley Wright — 5’10 SF/SG —All Iowa Attack EYBL / Marion HS
Wright is a fluid wing who is such a versatile player on both ends of the ball. This spring she’s looked quicker with the ball and her shot looks more consistent. Wright has been getting to the rim and finishing really well this spring and that is huge for her game. At the next level she can really play pretty much any position 1-4 but will be a dominant player on the wing. In the last live period of the spring coaches were buzzing about her length and finishing ability. It will only be a matter of time before she sees an uptick in recruiting.
Avery Fried — 6′ SF — All Iowa Attack Nike Mauro / Bondurant-Farrar HS
Unfortunately Fried suffered a torn ACL/MCL this spring which will take her out until sometime this winter. I really wanted to see her show added aggression and a little bit more dynamic play. I saw her a few times before the injury and she looked really good. She was shooting the ball well from the perimeter and she just looked quicker and more mobile from the winter. I expect her to come back strong this winter, but her recruiting is going to take a hit from missing this summer and half of her junior season. She’s going to be a really under-the-radar grab for a school in the 2021 class.
Macy Gaskill — 5’7 PG — All Iowa Attack National / Urbandale HS
Gaskill is someone in the 2021 class that not a lot of people know just because she was stuck so far down the depth chart at Urbandale. Love her ability to get to the rim and she has made some strides this year in going to the rim. Gaskill is going to be a bigger part of the offense this year at Urbandale. With her added aggression that she has shown, she should make a pretty big impact. Love her game and know there are a few coaches have expressed interest in her.
Mallory McCall — 5’9 PF/SF — Play4Him / West Monona HS
McCall, like Dinnebier, has missed a chunk of her high school career. This past season she broke her arm and missed all but seven games. McCall has played really well this spring and has rose her stock considerably. She’s a tough presence underneath the rim but has the mobility and lateral quickness to play a bit on the perimeter. At the Queens of the Court event I thought she was the second best player I saw, only to find out that she still can’t really move her arm because she tore all the muscles and tendons. She has been dominant this spring and has a chance to score 30+ points per game this winter.
