Continue ReadingThis past weekend was a really fun event. There were many games that were really exciting and a lot of talent was on display. I have put out two articles highlighting the top guards and top forwards of the event. Although I put quite a bit of analysis into those articles, I still have some things on my mind.
Seton Catholic’s Youth
Seton Catholic has some really good young talent. There are 4 players specifically that I am referring to: Isabella DiGiovanni, Amanda Barcello, Lexi McNabb, and Sasha Daniels. These girls make up a “four” headed monster for Seton. The intriguing thing is how young these players are. We have at least two more seasons with these all-star caliber players. It will be really interesting to see how they grow together and under the coaching of Coach Self, I am sure they will reach their full potential.
Perry Championship Quest
Perry looked amazing this past weekend. This left me wondering if they are the early favorites for 6A State Finals next season. They looked like the best team in the tournament by far and there were some pretty solid squads participating. It’s not like Perry was beating bottom tier teams, they were playing some of the best of the best. The scoring trio of Madison Connor and Tatyanna Clayburne is incredibly hard to deal with and I imagine that they will only continue to get better as a tandem.
Pinnacle’s Big Star
Kennedy Basham is by far one of the most intriguing prospects in the state of Arizona. This is mainly due to her incredible height of 6’6 and the high ceiling she has potential wise. There were moments where she looked simply unguard-able. However, when matched up with defenders who were willing to fight for position, she struggled. Of course she will naturally become stronger as she continues through high school, as she is only a freshman going into her sophomore year. However, that would be my recommendation as a scout, hit the weights, add muscle, dominate the post.
Valley Vista’s Missing Piece
Valley Vista looked really strong this weekend as well. I was especially impressed with Marisa Davis. She lacks footwork but makes up for it will hustle, determination, and grit. Davis is very strong and will force her way into the lane and move bodies out of the way in pursuit of a board. Although Valley Vista looked great, they were still missing their star player, Jennah Isai. Isai has surgery maybe a month or two ago. She looked to be recovering very well and all of us here at PGH AZ wish her a speedy recovery. Upon her return, I would be very interested in their team because she will add another layer to their team and take them to that next level.
Millennium Missing Piece
Millennium was solid but I did notice they were missing their post, Ali Zelaya. I am not sure as to what the reasoning behind her absence, if it is injury related, hope all is well and wish you a quick recovery. Nevertheless, Millennium definitely missed her and I think that is a testament to how important of a player she is and how impactful she can be. The guard play for Millennium was exceptional with Trayanna Crisp and Jasmine Singleton. They should be very scary once Zelaya returns.
