As summer ball is now in full swing, Prep Girls Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players on the rise in a variety of positions.
Below are some of the state’s players to keep your eyes on in the 2020 class
Sarah Thomson, 5’4, G, 2020, Riley County
A smart point who can handle the ball and bring speed and understanding to the floor. She can shoot when she’s open and has good ideas with the ball. She is very good on the defensive end and looks to force turnovers jump passing lanes and kickoff for teams fast-break looks.
Jessica Meier, 5’5, G, 2020, Beloit
Meier is a strong point guard who can score well for herself and make small openings a large problem for the opposing team. She has great speed and is a good ball handler in open space and likes to push the ball up the floor. She has a solid transition game and can finish shots through contact. Also an excellent three-point shooter as a dribble and pull up as well as after the catch.
Megan Foster, 5’5, G, 2020, Waverly
A guard who can contribute on both sides of the floor. She scores well around the basket and can knock down shots from distance. She distributes the ball well and is actually a solid rebounder for her size. She slips in between opponents and can come down with the ball and then push the tempo on the other side. She’s also a pest on defense who looks to force turnovers.
Riley Hiebert, 5’3, G, 2020, Eudora
A strong an active guard for her sides who earns her stripes by being active on the Defensive side of the floor. She can stay with the ball and has great lateral quickness. She’s tough and knows when to trap and how to use her hands. Also solid on the other side of the floor. A player who can score and get the ball out of problem areas.
Taighe Weeter, G, 2020, Goodland
a smart guard off-the-ball who runs the floor and looks to tip a wave passes and sore on the other end. She is great at crash in the basket and scoring quickly after the catch off the glass. Also a confident three-point shooter from the top of the key and the wing spot.
