Throughout the week we will be posting evaluations of 20 players by class (as voted on by Instagram followers) each day culminating with 10 evaluations of 2023s on Friday. This is a look at 10 players in the 2021 who I either thought played really well or I haven’t talked much about yet this summer. You can see all of the coverage from this weekend previously posted below.
Ava Kuhl — 5’6 SG — Nebraska Attack Select 2020 / Columbus Scotus HS (NE)
Kuhl was a strong presence on a rather solid Nebraska Attack Select squad. She’s a physical shooting guard who has a lot of patience with the ball in her hand. Good shooter and was getting to the rim really well this weekend. She has a solid basketball IQ and she doesn’t get too high or low when playing. A bit of potential here and she showed me a lot this weekend.
Callahan Zieball — 6’1 C/PF — Team Wisconsin Select Black 2020 / Sparta HS (WI)
Zieball is a big player on the inside for her team. Solid touch around the rim and solid footwork allows her to score the ball pretty consistently. She has the ability to stretch it out and score the ball too. I really like her rebounding ability as she doesn’t wait for the ball to come, she just goes and gets it. Really solid option in the post for a scholarship school.
Caroline Waite — 5’3 PG — All Iowa Attack EYBL 2021 / Ames HS (IA)
Waite is a small lead guard who is pretty quick and shifty with the ball. She’s a really solid shooter from the outside and was just a bit hot-and-cold this weekend. I really like her ability to command the offense. Good ball handling skills allow her to be good in the face of pressure. Good motor and will always play hard.
Elise Boulton — 5’5 SG/PG — All Iowa Attack Nike Mauro 2021 / Montezuma HS (IA)
Boulton was on fire in the game I saw of her this weekend. She was 5-of-5 from behind the arc and it seemed like she just couldn’t miss. She didn’t force shots up either and made the right decisions with the ball. A really solid kid to have on your team who is going to make shot after shot from the perimeter.
Ellie Bulman — 5’9 SF — All Iowa Attack National 2021 / Gilbert HS (IA)
Bulman has been getting better all summer long. She is starting to show the insane potential that she has and this weekend was no exception. She is able to score the ball really well on the offensive side but she is also a really good defensive player capable of locking down her man. Love her ability to get things done on both ends of the floor and impact the game in multiple ways.
Grace Larkins — 5’9 SF — All Iowa Attack EYBL 2020 / Southeast Polk HS (IA)
Larkins is a supremely talented player who is playing up with the top EYBL team. She is really athletic and has the ability to score the ball in the lane really well. She shoots the ball from the outside well and is starting to become a really good offensive threat. Her game has come a long way since the high school season, and she was really good in high school.
Julia Reis — 5’8 SF/PF — All Iowa Attack Nike Mauro 2021 / Dallas Center-Grimes HS (IA)
Reis is a kid who every time I see, she has improved in some way. Very good motor and willingness to improve her game. She’s a kid who can shoot from the outside but also get into the lane and score the ball. She’s a scorer who knows how to get the ball in the basket. Reis has a competitive mindset and is always going to try and outwork you.
Katie Dinnebier — 5’7 PG — All Iowa Attack EYBL 2021 / Waukee HS (IA)
Dinnebier is one of my favorite players to watch throughout the state. She is always on the floor for the loose balls and always plays as hard as she possibly can. Really good ball handler with a knack for getting to the rim. Dinnebier is a great on-ball defender and has loads of potential for the next level. A must see player in this class whose stock is skyrocketing.
Kinsey Jilek — 5’9 SF — All Iowa Attack National 2021 / Johnston HS (IA)
Jilek is one of the smartest players on the floor at all times. She is always in the right spot whether that be on the offensive end or the defensive end. She’s a really good scorer of the ball as well who can get to the rim with either hand. Jilek is a player who flies under the radar because she isn’t the highest scorer on the floor but the most impactful.
Macy Gaskill — 5’7 PG — All Iowa Attack National 2021 / Urbandale HS (IA)
Gaskill has come a long way and I am really starting to fall in love with her game. She’s a really good ball handler and she holds the ability to be a really good defender on the ball. This weekend her defense stood out to me while other days it is her passing and offense. She will look to be the starting point guard this winter for Urbandale and should flourish in that role.
