Midwest Girls Classic: Top Performers
With the Midwest Girls Classic in the books, we will start to look back at the insane talent that we saw from the weekend. Up first, the top 10 performers that we saw regardless of class. Throughout the week we will be posting evaluations of 20 players by class (as voted on by Instagram followers) each day culminating with 10 evaluations of 2023s on Friday. The 10 players listed below will not appear in those evaluations, so think of this as a 10 player bonus. These also will simply be in alphabetical order and not indicative of a true #1-#10 list.
Ashley Iiams — 6′ PF — All Iowa Attack EYBL 2021 / Ames HS (IA)
Iiams was super impressive in the game that I saw them play this weekend. She is getting stronger and is starting to become a dominant force. Iiams is shooting the ball really well right now and continued that into this weekend. Started to really crash the boards hard late in the game and I think once she does that more often, her game is going to take off. Very versatile stretch four.
Caitlin Clark — 5’11 PG — All Iowa Attack EYBL 2020 / Dowling Catholic HS (IA)
Playing in her last game in an All Iowa Attack uniform, Clark was dominant. This was the best I have seen her play and the performance was just like Kobe Bryant in his last game. Clark was able to do whatever she wanted and was scoring at an elite level. She was passing the ball really well and scored at all three levels. With her All Iowa Attack career done she now heads off to finish her summer with the USA U19 World Cup team.
Jenna Hopp — 5’10 SG/PG — Nebraska Attack UAA 2021 / Glenwood HS (IA)
I had seen Hopp in April and after picking up an offer from Wichita State, her game has seemed to take off. Fluid player with a bit of creativity to her game. Good ball handler who is so smooth with the ball. Hopp is a good defender who has quick hands and the ability to get steals and score in transition. She’s going to be one of the top players in the state.
Kylie Strop — 5’7 PG — Team Wisconsin Select Black 2020 / River Falls HS (WI)
This was my first time seeing Strop and she was really impressive. She’s a quick lead guard with really good penetrating ability. Strop can also score the ball really well at all three levels. Her decision making was really good this weekend and was setting up her teammates well. Such a fun player to watch and has a ton of potential with her game. Committed to University of Sioux Falls.
Kyra Fischer — 5’10 SF — Nebraska Attack UAA 2020 / South Sioux City HS (NE)
Fischer was a 2021 playing up due to some absences from their top team. She really came in an impressed quickly with her shooting ability. Her pure shot was on full display this weekend when I saw her. Lengthy wing who is versatile enough to play multiple spots on the floor. Super intriguing player with some strength packed onto her frame.
Lynnsey Hady — 5’10 SG/PG — Air Minnesota 2020 / Rochester Mayo HS (MN)
Hady was a really bright spot this weekend. Love her aggression on the offensive end of the floor. Hady is really a position-less player who can simply make plays happen. Really fluid guard with a ton of length. She has good vision in transition and can knock the outside shot down. Versatile player who can play spots 1-3 with relative ease. Sleeper prospect in the 2021 class.
Maddie Krull — 5’10 PG/SG — Nebraska Attack UAA 2020 / Millard South HS (NE)
Krull is one of my favorite players to watch. Really quick/fast with the ball. Exceptional passer and skilled scorer. Her shot is a little unorthodox, but works really well. One of the most underrated parts of her game is her ability to handle the ball and not get sped up. Krull is a high motor athlete who holds a very high basketball IQ. Committed to University of South Dakota.
Meredith Rieker — 5’8 SG — All Iowa Attack Nike Black 2022 / Valley HS (IA)
Rieker has really impressed me a lot this summer. She’s getting so much more fluid with the ball. She is showing a ton of confidence in her shot from the outside as well. Good finisher in the rim and will benefit from added strength making her more dynamic. She might be the most improved kid in the state in terms of a points per game increase next year.
Peyton Beckmann — 5’4 PG — All Iowa Attack Bell 2022 / Panorama HS (IA)
Beckmann is a small wiry guard who is going to have a huge impact this upcoming season at Panorama. She’s wired to score the ball in so many different ways and put that on display this weekend. She is such a crafty player who gets teammates involved. Seems like she loves contact as she flies down the lane with the ball.
Sarah Shepard — 5’10 PF — All Iowa Attack Nike Black 2022 / Fremont HS (NE)
Shepard isn’t going to blow you away and drop 20 points a game, but she is a skilled and powerful post. She plays so hard at all times and I think that’s what really draws me into her game. Saw her a few times this past weekend and she was always right there battling for a rebound or running the floor. Shepard is a kid that will just put up a complete stat line every single game.
