The 6’0 wing played an instrumental role in helping Prairie to its 7th State Championship and was voted to first team All-State in the process. Kendyl is a do it all type of player that has good size and solid athleticism. She can guard multiple positions on the floor and she took the challenge of guarding the opposing team’s best perimeter player on many occasions during the high school season. While catching up with Kendyl, we learned more about her recruitment, what she needs to work on and an update on her high school situation.
Recruitment Update:
Kendyl says that she has been fortunate to speak with a variety of colleges from all around the country. She did not list any particular favorites, but says she loves all of the schools she is currently talking to. She plans to take some unofficial and official visits in the Fall if all goes as planned for her. Location will not play a major factor in her decision, as she is looking for the schools that best fits her. As far as what level she wants to play at in college, Kendyl says, ” I would love to go Division 1 but I’m confident I’ll find where I belong soon.” Kendyl has gone about her recruitment pretty low key, but she’s an Alaskan girl originally and even in Washington, we do not have quite the glitz and glamour surrounding most recruits in comparison to California or some other parts of the country. When it’s all said and done, Kendyl is going to choose the school that best fits her academically. “Education is very important to me because I’ve worked hard on my school work to get where I am today.”
What Kendyl is Working On:
Consistency was the word that Kendyl used when talking about the things she needs to work on before playing at the collegiate level. “I have really good moments and then some that lack my actual ability, so the focus is to always stay on top of my game.” She also mentioned knocking down open shots, playing smart and being a vocal leader are things she plans to keep improving.
Transfer:
As previously reported, Kendyl plans to transfer for her senior season. She moved from Alaska to Prairie to live closer to her club team, Tree of Hope, before her sophomore season. She played JV due to transfer rules and then played a big role in helping Prairie to the 3A State Title during her junior season. ” I decided to move back to Juneau, Alaska and live with my family for my senior year.” She will be attending Juneau Douglas High School before heading off to college.
