After shooting nearly 57% from the field, Coleman is working to stretch her game out past the three point line where she only shot 2/15 for the season as a Sophomore. Casey told me that her game could be described as “tough, intense and gritty.” She went on to tell me, “I have a good basketball IQ and I work hard to fill whatever role is needed for my team. I love to pass as much as I do to score. I take a lot of pride in my defense.”
Heading into her Junior year, Casey is starting to get a better feel for who she is as a player. She told me, “My coaches tell me that my biggest strength is my ability to see the floor and make cuts into open space.” Coleman also realizes that the time is now to add to her game. “I’ve always been one of the taller players on the team so I’ve had to play in the paint. I’m working to become a better ball handler and outside shooter and am really becoming more confident in playing outside.” Her Sophomore year ended with disappointment in the team results of losing in the district tournament but Casey was a bright spot for the Lady Rockets. She made the all-district team and was named Player of the Game at the Ted Cook Classic and made all Tournament team at the Gateway Classic.
This AAU season, Coleman is playing with Kentucky Premier – McClain 2021. She told me “It’s always an awesome opportunity to play for KYP and I can’t wait for July!” Heading into the summer, Casey has 4 scholarship offers and is hoping to add some more. She claims offers from University of the Cumberlands, UPike, Lindsey Wilson and Kentucky Christian. Once she gets through July AAU, all focus will shift back to leading Rockcastle. Casey told me that her goals for the season are to be district champions and compete for a regional championship. She also wants to continue evolving her game to become more of a swing player that can score anywhere on the floor. If Coleman can make those strides, she’s going to have Rockcastle in the mix to win the 12th and get to Rupp Arena.
