Prospect Spotlight: Jada Gyamfi (2022)
One of the most sought after prospects in the state is 2022 forward Jada Gyamfi. The Urbandale High School product has been having a great year running with the All Iowa Attack 2021 EYBL squad and has improved a ton since her freshman season. She is a versatile forward who can play both on the perimeter and in the paint. You are instantly drawn to her game when she is on the floor.
This past season with Urbandale, Gyamfi scored 9.1 points a game on a very good team that made it to the state tournament. With a few key graduations, she is going to be counted on to step up and get the team back to Wells Fargo in March. Along with her sister Maya, a recent Northern Iowa commit, Jada is going to be looking to have a stellar season in order to make her way back for the second time in her career.
“We want to get to state and advance past the first round hopefully,” Gyamfi said. “We want to win the whole thing. Our school is extremely underrated and we have a lot of talent this year.”
First, Gyamfi is hoping to finish off this AAU season with a championship. This summer season has been one for the ages for this group of players and it will all culminate with a chance to win the championship in Chicago on July 10-12.
“The summer has gone amazing,” Gyamfi said. “Starting off with winning Boo, this gave us so much motivation and we get in the gym for practice and use it as our motivation. We are far from done. Our number one goal besides getting better is to win Nike Nationals. From the first week of practice to now we are focusing on getting better for nationals and to end our season with a championship.”
Gyamfi has progressed very well from this past season. She has gotten stronger and more aggressive with the ball and is starting to play on the wing really well. Her mobility allows her to slide to the wing while also playing in the post at times. She is a very skilled player with a ton of upside left to tap into.
Even with the improvement that she has seen this summer, Gyamfi knows that she must keep working in order for her to reach the goals that she set for herself.
“I am working on keeping my confidence and becoming more of a scorer,” Gyamfi said. “Being versatile and being able to score inside and shoot threes is very important to me. Just inside Attack we can all shoot, so just getting up more shots to be more consistent.”
One thing that Gyamfi mentioned as something that goes unnoticed in her game the most is her enthusiasm for her teammates when she is on the bench.
“I think the mood I bring to my team is something most people don’t notice,” Gyamfi said. “I love to cheer on my teammates especially against older teams. Even if I’m not having the best game according to the book I can always count on my attitude.”
Gyamfi is one of the top 2022 players in the state and is looking to have her college decision made by the fall. Wherever she chooses to go will be lucky to have her. She is only going to get better and evolve her game over the next few years.
