Prep Girls Hoops recently caught up Ellie for an update on her recruitment process, what she’s looking for in a school and when she plans to eventually make a decision.
As a tall guard with a solid handle, Ellie is a legitimate Division 1 prospect. At the high school level, she really does a good job of breaking the defense down, getting into the paint and drawing fouls. She connects at a high rate from the free throw line and this helps her to regularly score 20-25 points. She also makes good reads coming off ball screens, capable of making a play for herself or a teammate. At this stage of her career, she can play some point or shooting guard. As far as the recruitment process goes, Ellie mentions, “[It] has most definitely been really long yet a lot of fun. You only have this opportunity for a little bit so I’m taking in the process as much as I can.” She currently holds multiple Division 1 offers from schools in the WCC, Mountain West and Pac-12. Ellie is playing with the renowned Tree of Hope program and plans to play out her summer in the Nike EYBL before making a decision. She adds, “I really want to take in everything I got and make sure that the school I’m going to commit to will be the best for me and that I will love it there for the next 4-5 yrs. There is more to life than basketball and I want to pick a college that does just that..helps me with my future goals and plans after college.” The 5’10 guard is also eyeing some official visits following the July viewing period. August is going to be a busy month cutting things down and really narrowing in on a decision. For more info on Ellie’s recruitment, see our interview below!
Other Interview Questions:
“The most I’m looking for in a college is the family atmosphere. I want close relationships with my teammates and coaches. I love the family aspect and I want them, to again, give me guidance after college and help me grow as a woman. I also want to major in journalism, so that has definitely impacted a lot on the college I want to go to. Playing time, however, is a big thing for me. I want to go to a college where I know I will make an impact and help the organization grow. Lastly, the level I want to be playing at is of course division 1! I have learned a lot this year, that you have to choose the right fit for you and what really feels right. So if the college I commit to happens to be Pac 12, Mountain West, etc. I know I will be happy with my decision because I chose the right fit!”
