Continue ReadingWith the June AAU period in the books, I am going to start pushing out (finally) our coverage from Summer Jam in Minnesota from June 14-16. Instead of the typical evaluation lists I am going to attempt something that I have never done before on either the boys or girls side. Below, I will be listing each 2020 team from Iowa that I saw at Summer Jam, along with their roster *that was present for the game I saw*. Therefore, these aren’t complete rosters but rather just who played in the game that I watched. For example, MN Rise Martin had six kids on one day against Beyond Ball 24K but I noticed on the next day they had their full lineup — I would only include on their roster the six players that I saw.
I will list notes on five players from each 2022 team and three players on each 2023 team that I haven’t talked about much this summer. If that isn’t possible, I will just talk about the five players who I thought played the best during the weekend. The rosters are not in any particular order except with the committed players listed first.

There are a lot of very nice players on this Lady Martin Brothers 2022 team and they made it all the way to the finals of the top 2022 bracket at Summer Jam. Once there, they fell to a very tough team from Minnesota that had a couple of players who have received high major offers. Amanda Treptow played well against the physicality of their opponents. She’s a thin lead guard who is a good floor general with very solid court vision on the floor. I thought that she played this weekend with poise as well as balance to her game. She’s a tough player who is going to get better as she gains strength. Kamryn Grissel has also popped out to me this past weekend. It is really hard to get a read on what position she’s going to play at the next level because she is so long. Her length will allow her to play on the wing, but her passing and decision making makes me think that she’s going to stick at one of the guard spots. She’s a quick and wiry strong guard who is able to score at the rim. Allison Meadows was once again very good. She’s a dynamic point guard who has been shooting the ball really well. Good ball handling but can stand to improve with the ball in the face of pressure. She’s a skilled guard who is going to be one of the more sought after 2022 guards. Taylor Veach has put herself squarely on the map of being a top notch prospect across the region. She’s one of the most skilled players in the state and has the ability to score from anywhere on the court. She’s a slick lefty with a tremendous motor and knowledge of the game who is the glue player to this team. Aree Beckmann has one of the best shooters in the state regardless of class and she is still trying to find her fit in this group. Coming of the bench has been a new experience for her, but one that she is starting to adjust to. She can score from anywhere on the floor and plays as hard as anyone.

I saw All Iowa Attack Nike Red play in the 2023 top bracket finals against Minnesota Fury UAA. This roster might not be as complete as I think there were one or two players who weren’t on the roster playing for them. Arianna Jackson has performed quite well in the final game of the weekend. She is a very smart lead guard who beats her defenders with quickness off the bounce. She’s also a fairly solid shooter with range well beyond the perimeter. Kelsey Joens was off to a slow start to the AAU season but has since been very good. She’s a very smart player who can just go out onto the court and score the ball. A lengthy guard, Joens has all the makings of being just like her sisters, and that’s a very good thing. She was drilling shots from all over the floor and that is kind of what you’ll get from her over the next few years. Molly Noelck is a super intriguing player with a good nose for the ball. She is a well built strong forward who can easily slide between playing on the wing and on the inside. She is going to be a key player for Johnston over the coming years as they have a huge group of seniors getting ready to graduate this year.

This was the first team that I watched at Summer Jam on Friday afternoon and they did not disappoint even though the team they were playing was very good. Jasmine Barney was her usual self pushing the tempo, running the offense, and scoring the ball. She’s a total competitor and multiple times she ended up on the floor grabbing a loose ball. Barney is going to be one of the next high scoring guards in line at Cedar Falls. Grace Knutson is just going into eighth grade but she already shows a great feel for the game and you can tell she is the daughter of a coach. She processes the game really well and when she has the ball in her hands the game slows down. Knutson needs to gain strength, like all 2024’s at this point, but she is going to be one of the top players in the class once everything is done. Ava Meyer was very impressive to me with how she handled the inside pressure of ND PRO Elite. They were a big team but after some adjustments, Meyer was able to stand firm on the inside. She is a very impressive force in the middle who can stop the drive very well. The scoring ability has been there in flashes and over time she’s going to turn into a very good offensive threat as well.
