Hook Shots 15 Norton and Olathe East wing Aubrey Rogers is shown with arms wide in defensive position.Aubrey Rogers, 5’9″, Olathe East, Hook Shots 15U Norton – Rogers has the ability to get to the rim and knock down a three. What really caught my attention was her defense. One of the few players I’ve seen who showed the ability to smother a eurostepping driver. She also blocked the shot.
Avery Spencer, 5’8″, Sumner Academy, Hook Shots 15U Norton – Spencer does a number of things well. While her perimeter shot could use more under it she showed the ability to hit the quick three off the catch. She also showed a good 8′ turnaround jumper after an inside spin move at the free throw line. She is also a good free throw shooter. To help her finish off drives more consistently Spencer does need to bring the ball up higher. Repeatedly defenders were able to swat the ball out of her hands or tie her up. Defensively Rogers gets back in transition, boxes out on the wing, and has some ability to block shots.
Kansas United 15 Soyez’s and Wichita Heights’ versatile wing Zyanna Walker watches the ball after an opponent shotZyanna Walker, 5’11”, Wichita Heights, Kansas United 15Y Soyez – Walker is long, fast with the ball, handles the ball well, and is quick. A notable play was a post entry pick off that she took end-to-end. Walker is strong in the open court, can get to the rim, and can knock down the corner three. What may be overlooked is her defense. Often matched up with an offense’s 2 or 3, Walker is a strong one-on-one defender.
