Again this fall, there will not be a Division 1 live period, but the D2, D3, NAIA and JC may continue to view and evaluate future prospects.
July 25 is the final day of the viewing period, and for basketball players in Ohio, that means the beginning of a few days of bigtime individual events around the Buckeye state.
The OGBR Top 64 will take place in Cincinnati on July 25 and it will be the final look for the D1 coaches. Of course there will be all levels present, but this event allows the players to showcase their talent one final time to the bigger schools. Last year 90 coaches attended the event according to their website, and each player is guaranteed two games to showcase their skills to the coaches on hand. The last I heard they were still taking players who would like to attend this event.
Three days later, Ohio will be overcome with three individual events on the same day to allow kids from all around Ohio to showcase their skills in front of coaches.
The original event set for July 28 is the one drawing the most attention, as 180 players will converge on the College of Wooster for the sold out Ohio Summer Showcase. I will be part of this event and will be doing coverage for PGH Ohio on this day. Two sessions will take place including a group of younger players in the morning, and the older players will play in the afternoon. Several of the top high school coaches from around Ohio will be working the stations on this day and nearly four dozen college coaches have committed to attend. Loudenville High School coach Tyler Bates will be running this event.
Two other events that were scheduled on that day are the Northeast Ohio Summer Showcase at Perry High School and the SCOH 50 Plus High School Showcase at Portsmouth High School. All three events will provide a lot of basketball talent on display for coaches and fans to attend.
Without a doubt, this will be a big ten days ahead for the basketball players in Ohio.
