As we recently updated our player rankings, I wanted to take the time to touch on each position group one by one. The Power Forwards and Posts in 2021 have improved a great deal over the last calendar year, and it has been noticed by college coaches, as several of these prospects have picked up offers and interest since the Spring season began. Below we take a look at the Top-20 Frontline prospects in Indiana’s Class of 2021.

Meg Newman of Indianapolis North Central High School has always been a talented and skillful basketball player, but her performance throughout the Spring suddenly drew her a great deal of interest and offers from Pac-12 and Big Ten schools. She has a strong frame, good length, and she’s fairly bouncy and runs the floor well North/South. She can handle the ball a little bit and create offense, she can knock down an open perimeter jumper, but she’s elite in the mid-post where she can use her skill, size, and ability to overwhelm opposing defenders.
Two players who have really started to see their recruiting take off over the last month or so are Sydney Jaynes of Trinity Lutheran School and Brynn Shoup-Hill of Goshen High School. Both prospects play similarly, in that they are built like posts, sometimes play like posts, but both have very good ball skill, and both can step out and knock down a jumper with range to the perimeter. The uniqueness of their all-around skillset is very attractive to college programs, and they both have earned new offers/interest from several Mid-Major Division-I programs in the last 45 days.
Another prospect who had a huge Spring is Trinity Thompson of Michigan City High School. She is a strong, physical, high-motor, and athletic forward who actually grew up playing more of a wing position. She has really good skill away from the basket, she can handle the ball in transition, and she is quite the mismatch in the mid-post because she can use her size, skill, and athletic ability to attack opposing defenders in a variety of ways. She has a lot of Division-I interest right now.
Tenleigh Phelps of Triton Central High School has always been a favorite to watch, and she is starting to get rewarded for the time she puts in working on her game. Tenleigh is built like a power forward/post, but she has fairly quick feet, a good handle that she uses to create space from her defender, and she has a very nice lefty stroke and soft touch as deep as the 3-point line. She continues to do more and more things skillfully, making her a real problem for defenses, and she recently picked up her first Division-I offer.
Also having picked up her first Division-I offer is Lamiya Woodson of Fort Wayne South Side High School. Lamiya is an intriguing prospect because she’s a strong, physical, but very bouncy and active power forward who moves around the floor with ease. She does play hard, but I would like to see her play with a little more of a sense of urgency, because I think she could average 15 or more rebounds per game during the 2019-2020 season, if she’s determined to do so. She is great scoring it around the basket, and she has worked to improve her mid-post game quite a bit. She is filled with upside, she’ll just need to keep working on playing facing the basket.
