Continue ReadingThe 10th member of Washington’s 2020 class has made her college announcement. Rising senior Callie Stevens is coming off of a strong junior campaign, where she helped Bellarmine Prep to a 22-7 record and a 4A state tournament appearance. Callie announced her pledge to Lewis-Clark State College via twitter. Prep Girls Hoops caught up with Callie to discuss her decision to commit to the Warriors.
Callie felt that LC State was the perfect fit for her for multiple reasons. ” I was looking for a smaller school with a family feel that offered my area of study education/computer science. I also wanted to be close enough to my family that they could watch me play.” Located in Lewiston, Idaho, LC State is just a 6 hour drive from Tacoma, Washington. Lewis-Clark State also enrolls just over 4,000 students, so she felt comfortable from that aspect as well. Callie mentioned that she did consider some other schools, but she felt an immediate connection to Head Coach Brian Orr and his program. “I have been following LC State for a while and I have watched them play several times. One of the things that drew me to LC State was their style of play and how they play as a team. They push the ball and are very unselfish.” Callie also mentioned the athletic facilities as a nice bonus on top of everything else that impressed.
When it came down to her decision, Callie saw no reason to wait to commit. “Obviously my parents were a big influence but I also sought the advice of my high school coach, Kim West. I really respect coach Kim and she always had time to give me advice. She was one of the first people I told after I made my decision. Ultimately the decision was up to me and I knew LC State was the best fit.” Academics and basketball aside, Callie mentioned the word “family” almost a half dozen times in the interview and that was ultimately one of the top reasons she felt so comfortable with Lewis-Clark State.
Callie will finish up her final high school year at Bellarmine Prep and looks to lead the Lions to a 4A State Title before heading off to the collegiate ranks.
