Fayette County is named for Marquis de La Fayette – a French general who took the side of the colonials during the American Revolutionary War. Fayette was a large influence in the French Revolution as well. The area was formed in the early 1800’s from pieces of Highland County and Ross County. Although there are only a few high schools in Fayette County, girls basketball programs from both Miami Trace and Washington Court House have enjoyed their fair share of success over the year.
Let’s take a look at a number of talented underclassmen from Fayette County.
Shaylee McDonald – 5’7 Guard – Miami Trace – Class of 2020
Shaylee McDonald had an outstanding junior season, one in which she earned all-district honors for the Miami Trace Panthers. McDonald will be a 4-year letterwinner after her senior season. She is known for being a pesky on-ball defender and a very hard worker. Shaylee has the potential to take over a game offensively – don’t be surprised to see the bulk of the offense run through her during the 2019-2020 campaign.

Burns is a super-athletic guard on the hardwood, who also is an elite competitor on the track, where she has been a state placer. She causes havoc on defense, getting a number of steals and deflections and does an outstanding job of creating easy scoring opportunities for her teammates. Burns is at her best when she is getting two feet in the paint and attacking the rim.
Shawna Conger – 5’8 Guard – Washington Court House – Class of 2020
Conger is an off-guard with a knack for scoring the basketball. Whether it be with her feet set off of the catch or creating her own shot off of the bounce, Shawna is a tremendous shooter from all 3 levels of the floor. She also does well at finishing through contact around the basket. Conger’s length makes it easy for her to get her off shot whenever she wants, but she can also create for her teammates.
Gracee Stewart – 5’5 Guard – Miami Trace – Class of 2021
Stewart was one of the county’s most improved players last winter. A full-time JV players a freshman, Gracee burst onto the scene during her sophomore year, providing a legitimate perimeter threat for her team. Stewart has great range on her jumper and although she is more effective right now as a stand-still shooter from deep, she has a lot of promise as a true combo-guard moving forward.
