While the USJN and Battle in the Boro wind down, 32 teams mostly from Ohio will compete in front of the non D1 coaches this weekend for a last look during the first exposure period in July.
The GBA event will have three divisions as the high school players showcase their skills in front of coaches this weekend. The 2022 division will have teams such as Hidden Gems Black, Team 419 , Ohio Fire, Ohio Stars Elite, Kentucky Premier.
In the 2021 bracket, 12 teams will compete with teams such as the Cincy Chargers, We Got Next, Capital City Comets, Dayton Metro, Kentucky Storm Elite and Thunder 740.
The oldest group will be the 2020 division and there will be some stiff competition in that group. Teams like Ohio Quest, Team Knockdown, Strick Hoops, MAC Vision, Cincy Shock, Team Ohio Coffee and the OV Dragons will be battling.
Numerous clubs mentioned also have several teams competing in various age groups.
Games begin Saturday at 8AM at The Capital Center on campus of Capital University. They are using four courts and fans can see games all day, with a new game starting nearly every hour. The games continue on Sunday again starting at 8AM with the final set of games starting around 2:20.
The second half of July will see the D1 coaches come back out for a shorter period, July 21-25 with big events all around the country. Here in Ohio, teams will be heading to Cincinnati for The Clash on July 23-24, and the OGBR Top 64 will take place July 25 as the recruiting period ends for the Division 1 schools.
There will also be a big non D1 event coming up July 28 at the College of Wooster, as the Ohio Summer Showcase will be held. Close to 180 players in two sessions will showcase their skills in front of dozens of D2, De, NAIA and JC coaches.
I will report on some of the key players I see this weekend at the GBA event.
