Continue ReadingThis past Friday and Saturday I went down to the Grand View team camp to end my summer basketball schedule. There were quite a few teams at all levels of competitiveness as well as a few players who caught my eye that I had not seen before. Below you’ll find 10 players who really stood out to me in addition to the 10 that were posted yesterday. These players are in no particular order.
Sahara Williams – 2023 – 5’9 SF – Waterloo West
Williams was a name that I didn’t know coming into today. She is a very athletic and skilled athlete who can get to the rim at any time she wants. I thought that her ability to do what she wanted was consistent throughout the day. Williams is going to be a very good prospect in the 2023 class. If there is one knock on Williams, it was that I thought she could have shown a little more effort throughout the day but that will come with time.
Lauren Conrey – 2020 – 5’8 SG – Waterloo West
Conrey is a really underrated guard in the 2020 class. She is a very solid shooter from the outside and doesn’t make many mistakes with the ball. She has a calm presence about her both with the ball in her hands and on defense. She’s transforming herself into more of a point guard now too and is a very good heady defender with a little length. She should have a big year this upcoming season at Waterloo West.
Brooklynn Smith – 2022 – 6’2 C – Waterloo West
Smith is a player on the rise throughout the state. She has been showing a lot more skill and touch around the rim this summer. At the Grand View team camp I thought that she showcased a nice looking jumper that will become a very solid piece to her game. Smith always plays hard and is starting to show me more things that is going to force me to move her up in the rankings update this fall.
Sophia Wittrock – 2020 – 5’5 PG – Pekin
This was my first time seeing Wittrock and I was impressed by the skill that she was showing. She’s an able ball handler with a good feel for the game and a solid overall awareness of what is going on around her. I really think that she is a player who can be really solid if she wants to be. Pekin was missing a lot of pieces this weekend, and they lose a lot of talent overall but they should be in good hands with Wittrock running the point.
Emily Ades – 2021 – 5’6 SG – Boone
Ades was a key piece last year to the success at Boone and this upcoming season she is really going to be in the spotlight more often. I just simply enjoy watching her play the game being it genuinely looks like she is having fun. I think that she is going to take a step forward this season and be someone that can be depended on more often. Boone will really need her to step up and produce this season.
Cheyenne Shaw – 2020 – 5’9 SG – North Mahaska
Shaw is a very solid off-ball guard who can handle pressure a bit and can get the offense running if need be. She is a very good athlete who is best right now as a slasher. She is starting to come along shooting the ball and once that becomes a big part of her game she’ll take a bit step forward. Really good motor and she always plays really hard. She’ll be a nice addition to a college roster.
Kassidi Steel – 2020 – 5’9 PF – North Mahaska
Steel has a poise about her game that a lot of kids can’t match. She’s starting to shoot the ball a bit better and simply just looks more comfortable with the ball. Steel rebounded the ball really well on both days and she also showed a really good playmaking ability with the ball.
Madison Eisenman – 2020 – 5’5 PG – West Hancock
Eisenman has always been a steady presence for West Hancock in which they could rely on to handle the ball well. She doesn’t make many mistakes and she is a solid threat from beyond the arc. This weekend she was those two things and more. She was knocking down shots and getting to the rim really well and finishing once she got there. Eisenman is a high IQ type of player, one that you can count on to make the right play when the game is on the line.
Molly Noelck – 2023 – 5’8 PG – Johnston
The more I watch Noelck the more I like her game. She’s a young but steady presence on the floor and doesn’t change how she plays the game from AAU to high school. I think she’s going to be a very good prospect in the 2023 class, and I just don’t think anyone knows it yet. She doesn’t fill the stat sheet but she does play every position well and makes all the right plays. She could be an impact player for Johnston as early as this season.
Kinsey Jilek – 2021 – 5’10 SF – Johnston
Jilek, like Noelck, just looks like a basketball player. She is strong and athletic and can really play any spot 3-5 and could even play guard at times. She had a nice spring and summer on the AAU circuit and now is looking solid with her high school team. Jilek knows where to be on the floor and plays hard but I think her offensive skillset is still untapped. She’s going to be a player that is overshadowed this year but next year I can see her really taking off.
