I Called 2020 Monster Class Years Ago
One thing I have a talent for is spotting “can’t miss” girls basketball players early and this started with my own daughter, Sydney Colson, who currently plays for the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA, as well Brooke McCarty who is also in the WNBA with the Dallas Mavericks. What impressed me about my daughter was her reflexes after the nurse slapped her when she was born and my daughter slapped her back, so I’m thinking, wow she has quick hands already and other things fell into place along the way including winning a National Championship at Texas A&M University before entering the WNBA. McCarty was a little bit older, probably in the 4th or 5th grade and the poise she showed on the floor playing against older players just set off a light bulb in my head and I nicknamed her “The Chosen One” and she had a very successful career leading her high school team to the state tournament, numerous honors including playing on the McDonald’s All American team and a successful college career at the University of Texas

Deja Kelly and Sarah Andrews were 5th graders playing up and I knew they would be special, Kelly committed to Texas as a 7th grader but has since opened back up the recruiting process while Andrews was on an 8th grade team and I asked high school she would be attending. After seeing Myra Gordon, Jordyn Merritt and Deyona Gaston as well as countless others, I said “you don’t need to have perfect vision” to know 2020 would be a “Monster Class” and by the way the named players are all ranked in the Top 100 nationally so I guess I was right again
